New Horizon Communities (formerly Quixote Communities) is a 501c3 nonprofit that opened the Orting Veterans Village for 35 homeless veteran heroes living in Pierce County in May 2021. Quixote Communities is a 501c3 nonprofit that believes everyone deserves to have a safe and affordable place to live. MISSION: We provide permanent supportive housing for people experiencing homelessness. We create a
nd manage tiny home villages that foster community, encourage personal growth, and promote access to the care and services residents need. The Orting Veterans Village is home to 35 homeless veterans. We are on the Washington Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) Soldiers Home Campus in Orting, Washington. We are honored to partner with the WDVA as well as the Puget Sound Veterans Hope Center (PSVHC) to provide safe and affordable housing to those who have served our country. We have full-time support staff that work one-on-one with residents to help them transition into housing and have access to services. We have 35 permanent tiny homes and a 2,500 square foot community center. Our community center has a large double kitchen, laundry facilities, dining area, living room, bathrooms, and TV/multipurpose room. We also have staff offices in the community center to provide extra support for residents. Each tiny home is fully furnished with a .75 bathroom and electricity and heating. We provide permanent supportive housing, which is an evidence based model to effectively house people experiencing chronic homelessness. Once someone is housed with us, they are no longer homeless. They sign a lease, pay a small portion of their income on rent, and are part of a built in community of support. We are always looking for volunteers and partners. Please contact us at [email protected] if you'd like to get involved! We need folks to help bake cakes for birthday parties, prepare a homecooked meal, teach enrichment classes, provide financial literacy, yoga classes, etc. The Orting Veterans Village resides on the lands of the Puyallup and Coast Salish Peoples, whose ancestors lived here since time immemorial. We express deep gratitude for the local tribes who have supported our efforts to grow Quixote Communities to what it is today.
