What if your prenatal checkup couldn’t tell you whether your baby was okay?
For expectant mothers in rural Honduras, that’s not a hypothetical. Until recently, it was everyday life.
High in the mountains of Capucas, a remote community three hours from the nearest hospital on a rugged, nearly impassable road, nurse Juana Villeda cared for pregnant women with whatever she had.
Her clinic had no fetal Doppler.
Without one, mothers couldn’t receive a basic prenatal assessment or hear their baby’s heartbeat. The only alternative was a costly, three-hour journey to the nearest hospital—an impossible trip for many families.
When Juana reached out to CAMO, we responded with a small donation of medical supplies and a fetal Doppler.
A few days ago, she sent us these photos.
Today, mothers in Capucas are receiving safer prenatal care close to home. Many are hearing their baby’s heartbeat for the very first time—something they never imagined possible without leaving their village.
Juana’s message touched our hearts:
“I always tell everyone who donated the Doppler that it is a gift from God. I hope one day you can also help us with diaper bags and other essentials for our expecting mothers.”
In the United States, a prenatal checkup with fetal monitoring is something most families expect.
In rural Honduras, it became possible because someone chose to help.
Your generosity doesn’t just provide medical equipment. It helps protect pregnancies, strengthens rural healthcare, and gives mothers and babies a healthier start to life 🤰🏻
