Strengthening Families is one of the many services Youth for Change provides to youth on the Ridge. Strengthening Families is located at 1007 Bille Road, The Family Plac
e and serves families with children ages 0-5 in all capacities. We provide fun and interactive Tot-Time, and offer assistance to families in need to ensure family stability. Vision: For all Ridge families to be happy, healthy, thriving and actively engaged with each other and the community, with children reaching their full potential. Mission: To effectively collaborate with community partners to provide services and resources that empower, strengthen and preserve families with children in order to equip them to succeed socially, emotionally, physically and financially.
5 Protective Factors:
Parental Resilience: This means be both strong and flexible. Be able to handle life’s challenging situations. Bounce back when we get knocked down. Positive Social Connections: Parents need friends and family members to have their back; people they can go to when in need. Knowledge of Parenting and Child Development: Being a great parent is part natural and part learned. Children don’t come with a manual; we need to have tools in our parent toolbox. Social and Emotional Competence of Children: Parents need to help their children communicate. Social and emotional skills are things like dealing with conflict, making friends, expressing your emotions in a positive way. Concrete Supports in Times of Need: Everyone needs help sometimes. It also means getting help with your role as a provider. Programs we Offer:
Parenting Classes: Parenting classes are provided by Butte College– Foster Kinship Program and are FREE of cost. Classes are Fridays from 9-12pm
Tot-Time and Tiny Tots: Parents and children interact in age appropriate, fun and educational activities. Tot Time is every Monday (except holidays) from 11:15-12:15 and Tiny Tots is the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month from 10am-10:30am. Parent Time: Parents can talk, cook, and learn crafts together in a fun and safe environment. All of our activities encourage engagement parent to child relation building parent to parent. Creating Change:
Parent Advisory Council: Parents meet and discuss ideas that they would like to see in our program and our community. The goal is for parents to have a voice on the Ridge. Ideas will then be brought to the attention of local decision makers. All community members are welcome to attend. Strengthening Families Network:A group of community representatives from childcare to community service providers with the goal of connecting services and using resources to provide effective services to families with children ages 0-5. Meetings are held the 2nd Monday of the month at 1:00pm at 1007 Bille Road.
