What happens when a small group of UC Master Gardeners realizes they can’t reach every classroom—but still want every student to have access to hands-on science?
They build something new.
The UC Master Gardeners of Butte County, volunteers created The Living Lab, a project that trains teachers to bring garden-based science into their own classrooms. What started as a challenge is now reaching thousands of students.
This innovative approach recently earned them 2nd place in the statewide Search for Excellence competition.
It’s a great example of what happens when volunteers see a need and step in to solve it.
