Join our summer crew to learn how to take care of the land!

Native Roots Network (NRN) is seeking motivated young adults (18-24) to join the Yษ™
Kila Land Restoration Crew, an 8-week Land Stewardship Cohort, focused on cultural
reconnection, ecological restoration, traditional knowledge, and leadership
development. Participants will engage in hands-on land stewardship projects while
learning about soil and water health, traditional plants and foods, biodiversity, fire
ecology, biochar, and NRNโ€™s very own community production lab.

The program blends Traditional Indigenous Knowledge with Western science and
includes weekly cultural language components, rotating crew leadership roles, and a
final reflection and celebration. Crew members will work together as a cohort,
contributing to meaningful restoration work on the land while building skills in teamwork,
critical thinking, safety, and community leadership. Basic gear will be provided during
the program.

Participants will leave with practical skills, stronger community ties, and a deeper
relationship with the land. Application and information below.

๐ŸŒŽ More than Earth Day: The Work that Protects Home ๐ŸŒ

Native people are connected to land, water, and their relatives every day. Caring for the environment is a year-round responsibility passed down through every generation. Still, we recognize Earth Day as an opportunity to raise awareness about our Mother Earth and the importance of stewardship and environmental justice.

This month, First Nations is honored to sponsor the 5th Annual Pueblo of Acoma Earth Day celebration. Themed โ€œSacred Power for Sacred Land,โ€ the event will bring together local schools and the community for a day of environmental education, hands-on activities, and resource sharing. Events like this allow traditional knowledge to pass from elders to youth, support cultural teachings, and give young people the chance to learn from those who have cared for these lands for countless years.

A longtime First Nations community partner, Pueblo of Acoma is also working to protect sacred places like Chaco Canyon, support stewardship goals, and address environmental injustice. Their work shows that caring for the land is a responsibility inherited with love, memory, and purpose โ€“ all in a good way.

To help share this message, here are some ways to get involved:

๐ŸŒ Learn: Discover more about communities like Pueblo of Acoma. This can increase understanding around some of the challenges Native communities face in protecting and preserving our land: https://www.puebloofacoma.org/

๐ŸŒŽ Support: Join First Nations in investing in Stewarding Native Lands projects like the Indigenous Partnership to Advance Native American Communities and Producers that support community-led stewardship and keep cultural traditions alive: https://bit.ly/3QCaUim

๐ŸŒ Uplift: Promote year-round stewardship by joining local meetings, encouraging youth involvement, and sharing knowledge between generations. These everyday actions keep culture and land connected.
