Inspired by our daughter Abigail Allen,
and located just above the Zumbro river valley in Oronoco, Minnesota Rivers Edge Equine Rescue was established in the Fall of 2021 to save horses that have been neglected, abused or have somehow ended up in the slaughter pipeline. Abigail recently wrote, “Our goal is to help transition horses from a really rough place in their life to a new start. We want t
o work with horses to help them become happy, healthy and find new forever homes.”
So about this girl - Abigail is 11 years old. Since about 3 years old she has been nuts about anything horses! She started riding camps at 5-6 years old and quickly started riding lessons and volunteering at Red Gate Riding, to help and learn. She has become a great rider and has a huge heart for these amazing animals. Saving horses from bad situations by starting a rescue organization has been her dream and she is consumed about it. Long story short, after much discussion and planning for nearly two years we decided to start a non-profit rescue organization and build a place for horses to recover both emotionally and physically. In the end, love from family and friends is free but as you can imagine there are many costs to this effort. Below shows what donations will generally be used for:
* Veterinarian costs
* Medications
* Farrier costs
* Feed and supplements
* Training
* Horse adoption fees
* General bills and maintenance to keep the place running
