Was founded in 2011, and became an official recognized medical outreach service organization at UMaine in the spring 2012. The acronym stands for “Hands on Educational Association Reaching out Through Service.” In our very active first year, we had over 50 applicants, and 15 members were selected. We have volunteered at blood drives, Multiple Sclerosis walks, Halloween Parties for Camp Sunshine to
benefit children with terminal illnesses, the Elizabeth Levinson Center, and held a healthy eating educational program. empowers students and enhances our relationships with the greater community through direct service and education. We have made Valentines for seniors at Sandy River nursing home in Farmington. We took a trip to TAMC (The Aroostook Medical Center) for a tour and experiential learning. We held an overnight retreat that was a ton of fun! We participated in Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society. We have also learned about and helped people with various diagnoses and physical and intellectual disabilities in multiple settings. We held a crock pot challenge, and that was a big hit. We volunteered at the Hope House, with families effected by HIV/ AIDS, spent time with veterans in various veteran's hospitals, served community meals to those in need. Other activities have included collections and sorting medical supplies at Partners for World Health, yard work at the Iris Network, Spruce Run, toiletry drives for women's shelters, making meals at Ronald McDonald House, and many more.
