Each summer hundreds of Scouts and youth alike enjoy unique backcountry experiences in northern Maine. Katahdin, the Allagash Wilderness Waterway, the Penobscot watershed, the St. Croix International Waterway, the northernmost 100 miles of the Appalachian Trail, and many other streams and lakes.

REMINDER to all sons & daughters, you have 7days --> "When my son was born, all I wanted was to give him everything I had and more. The past 15 years have flown by and I feel a sense of urgency, to do all the things, to give him all the things, that will fulfill him as a kid, and prepare him to be a man. Common FAQ "What do bathrooms look like on an MHA Trek".
Answer: Depending on the itinerary you choose, the bathroom situation can be different. While more remote and primitive areas require cat holes, most bathrooms are similar to this one - thanks for the photo, Middleford Troop 33.

Day 5: Photo by Troop 116. Is Your Mamma a Moose??? "The breeding season (rut) for moose begins in late September and lasts into early October. Each May, cows give birth to one to two calves. Calves remain with their mother for one year and are driven off shortly before the next calf is born. Cows may produce their first calf when they are two and continue to breed into their teens. Bulls are able to breed as yearlings, but most do not breed until they are older and can compete with other larger bulls." Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

Day 4: Illusive As A Moose. "Threats: White-tailed deer are hosts to brain worm but are not impacted by it – however, it easily spreads to moose and causes neurological deficits and often death. Winter ticks are also threatening Maine’s moose population. Unlike deer ticks, winter ticks do not spread disease. The problem is that they attach by the thousands and stay attached for five or six months, causing moose to experience life-threatening blood loss, hair loss, and even behavioral change."
