It is with a heavy heart that we as a society have been forced to come to terms with yet another senseless murder of an unarmed Black man at the hands of law enforcement, and the militant response to the protests that have ensued. Iota Nu Kappa Multicultural Fraternity, Inc., as the first and only multicultural fraternal organization in the state of Maine, strives to uphold the values of Heritage, Knowledge, and Heart. In doing do we stand strong with all persons across the identities of race, ethnicity, citizenship status, national origin, gender, sexual preference, religion, ability, political affiliation, and all other salient identities. INK remains committed to eliminating global systems of oppression, eliminating all barriers to equality, and giving a voice to the voiceless.
To our brothers and sisters on the front lines of these protests standing up to the ugly face of race-based oppression: we see you, we hear you, and we support you. We encourage our brothers and sisters in UMaine Interfraternity Council and UMaine Panhellenic to stand in solidarity with us.
We hope that, like the Phoenix, a new sense of compassion, justice, and democracy are reborn from the ashes of these flames.
