Members of the El Presidio Chapter enjoyed a lovely morning with members of nine other Southern Arizona chapters at the annual Cluster Meeting in Green Valley. Speaker Tom Tudor, a life member of The Society of the Honor Guard, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, gave a riveting talk about the history of the memorial at Arlington National Cemetery. One of the El Presidio members and her dog, Gidget, spotted Grand Marshall Tammi Barrick on the way to the Pets of Pima Parade staging area! Tammi has many years of service to the DAR, including currently serving as El Presidio’s recording secretary. This year’s parade theme, “Wizard of Paws: There’s No Place like Home”, highlights the important mission of helping adoptable pets find their forever homes.

The Tucson Rodeo Parade kicked off with the Sons of the American Revolution and Arizona State Society Daughters of the American Revolution (including a member of the El Presidio Chapter). The first parade was held in 1925, and it remains the longest running non-motorized parade in the country. Schools across Tucson are closed for two days during “Rodeo Break”!
