We're happy to announce we'll be joining our friends 520 Dance Company and Yalla Tucson Belly Dance Academy to help raise funds for Candlelighters!
520 Dance Company is a dance studio and performing company located just outside downtown Tucson, AZ. 520 Dance Company cares about teaching clean dance technique and creating cool choreography as much as kindness, collaboration, and being yourself. 520 strives for dancers to feel supported and at home so that they can explore their personal dance goals. The process of making dance together is as important as the product created. Their tight choreography and dedication to dance is sure to captivate!
Yalla Tucson specializes in belly dance, called raqs sharki in Arabic and oryantal dans in Turkish, is rooted in dances done at social celebrations. It is a joyful dance that fosters togetherness and creativity. Tucson Belly Dance Academy classes provide a chance to make new friends and learn new skills, and a way to practice body positivity while learning this beautiful dance form. Raqs sharki/oryantal dans is done from Anatolia to Persia to Morocco. Its long history is shaped by changing trade routes and shifting borders. As we learn to translate the music into movement, we also learn about the diverse cultures this dance belongs to. Belly dance is often a gateway to greater cultural understanding, appreciation, and connection. Be amazed and deepen your cultural connections this Saturday!
All proceeds go to Candlelighters, whose work supports, serves and advocates for children and adolescents with cancer and other blood disorders, their families, long term survivors, bereaved families, and the professionals that care for them.
