🚗🐾 FREEDOM RIDE TO A NEW BEGINNING 💙
We have named him Sterling 🥰 update photo
This beautiful sable merle Sheltie boy with blue eyes is safe! About five years old, he arrived with painful, infected wounds across his back and hindquarters. His temporary medical foster is already at the vet with him for an assessment and medication. Getting him comfortable comes first.

Recent reactivity had put him at risk of euthanasia. We believe he deserves a chance to heal and show us who he is when he isn’t hurting. Within five minutes of arriving, he tucked himself beneath his foster’s chair between her legs and looked up so lovingly, as if to say, “Thank you. I know you’re going to help me feel better.”

💙 Could you sponsor his grooming, or contribute toward the $180 cost? His heavy mats and painful skin require extra time and careful handling by a groomer willing to take on special medical cases. We’ll coordinate his grooming with his veterinary care so it can be done as comfortably as possible.

Thank you to every driver who helped bring him to safety today, some starting their day before the sun came up. Your time, gas, and kindness gave this boy a new beginning.

🌈 Tilly is looking for her golden home at the end of her very own rainbow.

📍 Currently fostered in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Adopters should generally live within approximately a 2-hour drive. An exceptional home a little farther away may be considered, but all adopters must travel to Tilly. We do not provide transport or shipping.

Tilly is almost 1 year old, about 11 pounds, spayed, and missing one eye. She is happy, playful, affectionate, active and incredibly sweet.

We want the rest of her life to be about today and tomorrow — not yesterday. Please see our previous posts for her history. We are not sharing additional details about what happened to her.

We do need applicants to understand that Tilly did not simply have a difficult beginning or a generally “rough past.” She survived severe, extreme trauma that profoundly shaped the way she responds to fear, change and uncertainty. We will not share the graphic details, but her placement requirements are based on what she actually endured. They are not suggestions, and they are not negotiable.

Tilly is doing well with house-training when taken outside on a consistent schedule, approximately every two hours. She is still learning to independently go to the door and let you know when she needs to go out.

What Tilly Needs

• Very secure fenced yard attached directly to the home with a minimum 4-foot fence
• Approximately 750–1,000 square feet of usable fenced grass area for running and playing
• No pools or ponds — this is a firm safety requirement
• A reasonably well-lit yard at night; solar lighting is fine
• At least one compatible companion dog, ideally similar in size and generally no larger than about 30 pounds. Another Sheltie or similarly sized companion would be an excellent match
• Her companion must be comfortable with young-dog play and socially appropriate with a dog who has a blind side
• All resident dogs must come to Virginia Beach for a meet-and-greet with Tilly, regardless of distance. A second meeting may be required
• No children under 10; teenagers are fine
• No babies or toddlers planned within the next several years
• Someone home a significant portion of the day
• No fostering for another rescue or organization for at least the first year and until Tilly's training is complete
• Indoor confidence-building and appropriate training classes
• Kind, verbal training using encouragement and praise — no dominance methods, intimidation, physical corrections or clicker training
• Double-leashing outside her secure yard for now
• A high-quality fish-based diet with daily fish oil

Routine is very important to Tilly. She is learning that her world is safe and predictable, and repeated major changes can set that progress back.

Because she has vision on only one side, another dog can sometimes approach from her blind side before she realizes it. Her companion therefore needs to be tolerant, appropriate and comfortable with puppy-style play. We will not place her with a dog likely to respond with hard corrections or biting.

Tilly may occasionally submissively urinate, and fear has sometimes caused an accident when she is picked up too quickly. We clean it up and continue with our day. Accidents are never something to punish her for.

Sheltie experience is not required. Patience, kindness and consistency are.

Tilly doesn't need somebody to repair her. She needs someone who will give her the confidence and security to become everything she was always supposed to be.

Grass beneath her feet. Sunshine on her face. Another little dog running beside her. And people who keep choosing her. ❤️

🌈 Tilly is looking for her golden home at the end of her very own rainbow.

I feel broken. 💔 I feel like my heart is floating somewhere in front of me over two beautiful dogs who could have had so much more. Dusty and Sassy both crossed the bridge, and I cannot remember another stretch of rescue that has felt quite like this.

They came to us after lives marked by neglect, and they needed medical care, comfort, time, gentleness, and people willing to look at them and say, “You matter now.” 🐾 That is what our volunteers did. They drove. They fostered. They cleaned. They medicated. They cooked special food. They made vet appointments. They held frightened dogs. They celebrated tiny improvements. They cried in parking lots. They kept going. 🤍

And when there was still a chance, we tried. With Sassy alone, nearly $2,000 was spent just trying to answer the question every loving owner would ask: is there anything we can do to save her? We could never look at a dog who might have a chance and say no simply because the testing costs money. So we test. We check. We ask the specialist. We try the medication. We look for the path forward. 🩺 And when there is no path left, we make sure the ending is gentle. 🌈

That is rescue. It is sorrow and hope living side by side. It is loving dogs you know may break your heart. It is a foster mom now trying to comfort Sadie, who is genuinely grieving Sassy. It is volunteers choosing to show up again after loss. It is being exhausted, heartbroken, and still answering the next call. 🐶💞

The last six months have brought one extraordinary medical case after another. We have spent more than we ever expected to spend, and we are still several thousand dollars short on the final veterinary bills. But we are still here. Still standing. Still saying yes. 💪🐾

And that is because this rescue is not one person. It is a family. It is every foster home, every transporter, every volunteer, every person who shares a post, every person who sends five dollars, every person who mails a check with a note that reminds someone on a very hard day why they keep doing this. ❤️

If you believe in what this rescue family does, we need you beside us right now. Help us close these final bills so we can honor the dogs we lost and still be ready for the next one who needs us. 🙏🐾

If you would like to include a note, please do. Our Forgotten Four foster mom has carried an enormous amount of grief, and your words of encouragement would mean more than you know. 💌

We could not save every life. But every one of them knew love before they left us. And with your help, we will keep making sure the next one does too. 🤍🌈🐾

Sweet Sassy from the " forgotten 4" has gone to the Bridge. 💔

When Sassy came to us as one of our Forgotten Four, we knew her little body had already endured far too much. What we did not know was just how little time we would have with her.

Two weeks ago, we discovered two tumors, one involving her uterus and another attached near her kidney. At that point, surgery was not safely possible because she was still fighting Lyme disease and a significant infection. We started treatment and hoped we could get her stronger, buy her some time, and eventually give her a chance at surgery.

But the cancer was devastatingly aggressive.💔

In just two weeks, her body changed dramatically. She went from having a normal, streamlined shape to looking round and distended as the tumors grew. When she began showing signs of pain, we knew we could not ask her to endure more simply because we were not ready to let her go.

That is the part of rescue that breaks you.
We wanted years for Sassy. We were given weeks.
But those weeks mattered.

For the first time in a very long time, Sassy was clean, comfortable, watched over and cared for. She had medicine when she hurt, food when she was hungry, a soft place to sleep, gentle hands, kind voices and people paying attention to every change in her body. She was no longer just one more neglected dog surviving day to day.

Had she remained where she was, this cancer likely would have continued until her body failed her, with no one understanding what was happening and no one there to ease her suffering.

Instead, Sassy left this world surrounded by love.

Sometimes rescue does not give us enough time to rewrite the whole story. Sometimes we are only entrusted with the final chapter. When that happens, all we can do is make that chapter as safe, gentle and beautiful as possible.

Today, before we knew exactly where this day would take us, Sassy had additional bloodwork, ultrasounds and veterinary care as we tried to understand what was happening and whether there was anything more we could do for her. Her final treatment and end-of-life care also added to her medical expenses.

If you would like to help us cover Sassy’s final veterinary costs, donations can be made through our PayPal Charity link:

https://www.paypal.com/us/fundraiser/charity/3117822

Every donation helps us continue saying yes to dogs like Sassy — even when their journey with us turns out to be far shorter than we ever hoped.

You came to us as one of the Forgotten Four, but you did not leave this world forgotten.
And we like to believe Dusty was waiting for his girl on the other side.

Run free, sweet Sassy. You were loved all the way home. 🌈🐾

🌈 Tilly is looking for her golden home at the end of her very own rainbow. Virginia Beach VA must be within 2-hour Drive.

This picture feels like Tilly in one photograph. Sunshine falling across her, a little rainbow in her path, and this sweet girl simply moving forward.

That is what we want for her now. We are not looking for someone who wants a quick rescue project or who wants to spend the rest of her life focused on what happened to her. Tilly needs someone who wants to watch her blossom, celebrate who she is today, and help her discover everything tomorrow can be.

Tilly
• Almost 1 year old
• 11 lb Sheltie
• Spayed
• Missing one eye
• House-trained
• Happy, playful, active and incredibly sweet

🛑Please see our previous posts for her history. Please do not ask what happened to her. We are not sharing additional details.

We have had about six families approach us after an emotional, knee-jerk reaction to Tilly’s story and photograph. She does not need another “I’m not feeling it anymore.” She needs someone who has thought this through and genuinely wants the dog she is.

Her non-negotiables:

• Very secure fenced yard attached to the home
• Grass where she can actually run and play
• No pools, ponds or large bodies of water
• Well-lit yard at night, solar lighting is absolutely fine
• At least one compatible companion dog
• No children under 10, teenagers are fine
• No babies or toddlers planned within the next several years
• No fostering for another organization now or in the future
• Someone home a significant portion of the day
• Indoor confidence-building and training classes
• Verbal training and verbal praise, not clicker training
• Double leash outside her secure yard for now
• High-quality fish-based diet and daily fish oil for life

Sheltie experience is not required. Patience, kindness and consistency are.

Tilly may occasionally submissively p*e, and fear has sometimes made her p**p when she was picked up too quickly. We clean it up and continue with our day. It is not something to scold or punish. We are not looking for someone who ignores a dirty house. We are looking for someone who understands that an occasional accident is just an accident.

If your training philosophy involves dominance, intimidation, physical corrections, “pack leader” methods, Tilly is absolutely not your dog. She responds beautifully to a kind human voice, redirection, encouragement and lots of verbal praise. She's not motivated by food. We want her learning by hearing that she is safe and that she got it right.

And she is worth it. This is a genuinely wonderful little dog. Funny, busy, affectionate, playful and full of personality. She doesn't need somebody to repair her. She needs somebody who will give her the space and confidence to become everything she was always supposed to be.

❤️ Tilly could also use a little help from her friends. We are slowly transitioning her from Acana to Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin & Stomach Salmon, so we still need Acana and fish oil from our Amazon Wish List:

https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/39D7WD3MIFM32?ref_=wl_share

Her permanent diet will remain a high-quality fish-based diet with daily fish oil. If the cost of a bag of Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin & Stomach Salmon feels unreasonable, Tilly is probably not the right dog for your household.

We want the rest of her life to be about today and tomorrow. Grass beneath her feet, sunshine on her face, another little dog running beside her, and people who keep choosing her.

Tilly is looking for her golden home at the end of her very own rainbow. 🌈

✨️💕 FOSTER TO ADOPT OPPORTUNITIES, HAMPTON ROADS 💕✨️ fenced yard not a requirement see below
Our three girls, Trixie, Sadie and Sassy, are finally ready to begin looking toward their next chapter. 🐾❤️

All three are dog friendly and cat friendly, and all three have lived around children. They were previously used for breeding, so they are still learning what it means to simply be loved family dogs.

💕 Trixie is the only one we believe would be happy as an only dog. She is also likely to be the first available for adoption. ( spoken for)

💕 Sadie will need approximately another month before they can officially be adopted by their foster to adopt families while their medical care is completed.

All three are finishing treatment related to Lyme disease and the neglect they experienced before coming into rescue. Their skin has been treated, and their beautiful coats WILL grow back. ❤️

They are still learning house manners and getting accustomed to going outside regularly. Right now, going outside can bring up some fear. These girls experienced a life where being outside could mean being left there for long periods without food, while being inside could mean living in their own waste.

We believe that fear will fade as they learn something completely different:

🌿 Outside can mean sunshine, a little stroll, potty time and then coming safely back inside.
They actually prefer being clean. They are learning quickly, they are not destructive, they are not chewing things up, and overall they are wonderfully easy girls to live with.

🏡 We prefer homeowners with securely fenced yards.
We will consider a leash walking home without a fence only when there are no children under 10 in the home.
Any home with children under 10, including toddlers, must have a securely fenced yard.

They do not require tremendous amounts of exercise. They enjoy a nice walk and being with their people. Trixie, however, would probably vote for, “Go outside, potty, come right back inside.” 😂
🍽️ No free feeding. These ladies are currently on diets, especially Trixie, and meals need to be measured and scheduled.

🐱 All three girls are cat friendly.

📍 Foster to adopt homes must be in the Hampton Roads area, within approximately one hour of Virginia Beach. Moyock is also included.

📩 If you are interested in one of these girls, please send an inquiry directly through our page Messenger. We cannot reliably follow every comment on our posts, so commenting alone may not receive a response.

Now we want them to learn what normal feels like. A clean bed. Regular meals. A safe yard or gentle walk. Someone opening the door and waiting for them to come back inside.

And eventually, the realization that this time, they are home. 🥹💕🐾
