The courage to preach what the text says, regardless of who is in the room, is the first qualification of the faithful minister.

Galatians 1:10

There will always be someone in the room who does not want to hear what the text requires.

The faithful preacher opens it anyway. Not because he is indifferent to people — but because he loves them too much to give them anything less than what God actually said.

The text means what it meant when it was written.

The preacher’s job is to find that meaning and deliver it faithfully.

2 Timothy 2:15 - Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Scripture does not mean whatever we need it to mean in the moment. It has a meaning.

The work of the preacher is to find it — and then be faithful enough to say it.
