Explore Volusia’s Conservation Lands This December! 🌊🌿
- Deep Creek Eco-buggy Tour:
9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at Deep Creek Preserve, 964 S. State Road 415, New Smyrna Beach. Ride through Deep Creek Preserve and learn about the property’s agricultural history, habitat restoration, and native wildlife. Perfect for all ages—kids must be accompanied by an adult.
- Spruce Creek Park Paddle:
10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve, 6171 Ridgewood Ave., Port Orange. Paddle through mangroves to Strickland Bay while spotting dolphins, manatees, and wading birds. Bring your own kayak or use one of Volusia County’s free sit-on-top kayaks. Ages 10+ with adult supervision.
- Lake George Eco-buggy Tour:
9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Lake George Forest and Wildlife Management Area, 998 Ninemile Point Road, Pierson. Explore Lake George Forest and Wildlife Management Area to learn about recreation, habitat management, and spot bald eagles and other wildlife. Great for all ages, children must be with an adult.
- Wiregrass Hike:
8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at Wiregrass Prairie Preserve, 1751 Lopez Road, Osteen. Take a one-mile guided hike through Wiregrass Prairie Preserve and discover the roles of native plants and animals in this unique Florida landscape. Ages 8+ with adult supervision.
- Ecosystem Engineers Paddle:
9 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve, 90 Divito Drive, New Smyrna Beach. Learn how mangroves and oyster beds create habitat, protect shorelines, and support local seafood. Paddle your own craft or use a free kayak. Ages 10+ with adult supervision.
- Gopher Tortoise Hike:
8:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Deep Creek Preserve, 964 S. State Road 415, New Smyrna Beach. Hike two miles at Deep Creek Preserve to spot gopher tortoise burrows and learn why this keystone species is vital to Florida ecosystems. Ages 10+ with adult supervision.
