The Mid Klamath Watershed Council (MKWC) is offering manual fuels reduction contract(s) to qualified bidders. This project is on Public lands administered by the Six Rivers National Forest in the Orleans/Ukonom Ranger District.

All Hands All Lands (AHAL)

Cooperative Prescribed Burninging (July 27 - August 14, as weather, permits, and conditions allow)

A multi-organization burn team including the Mid Klamath Watershed Council, Karuk Tribe, CAL FIRE, Salmon River Restoration Council, volunteer fire departments, and other partners will be implementing prescribed burns on private lands in the Mid Klamath region to protect homes in Happy Camp, Orleans, Somes Bar, Horse Creek, and the Salmon River, and enhance natural and cultural resources. Burn permits and smoke management plans
have been approved. CAL FIRE has reviewed and approved fuels conditions, containment and holding features, as well as resource and equipment requirements. These burns are targeting light and flashy fuels and will be
monitored and patrolled until any smoke has been fully extinguished.

WHY ARE WE BURNING NOW? These early summer burns are reducing flashy fuels next to homes and access egress routes to provide immediate protection this fire season, reducing the potential for unwanted fire starts before
conditions get too dry. These prescribed burns are often done in the evening when conditions are cooler and fire is much easier to contain.

Our all-staff gatherings happen just twice each year, making them a valuable opportunity to bring our entire team together. The summer gathering is especially meaningful because it includes our interns, apprentices, seasonal crews, and year-round staff.

These gatherings give us the chance to connect with one another outside of our day-to-day work tasks. We work across a large geographic service area and staff from different programs may rarely have the opportunity to work directly together. Spending time together helps build relationships, strengthen communication, and create a shared understanding of the diverse roles and expertise that keep our organization operating successfully.

Sharing these snippets of the staff gathering highlight the teamwork, collaboration, and workforce development that are central to our mission while giving our broader community a glimpse of the dedicated individuals behind our work. These images reflect the connections that make our organization strong and the collective effort required to serve the communities and landscapes we work in.
