Spotlight Story: Asres
Position: Laundry Attendant and Bakery Worker at Bridge of Hope
Asres Yenehun is a 30-year-old woman who has been serving at Bridge of Hope Children’s Village since 2022. She currently works in both the laundry service and in the bakery - where she helps prepare bread and breakfast for the community children and faithfully performs her duties in the laundry. She is known among her colleagues and the children for being disciplined, humble, and hardworking. Her caring attitude has made her especially loved by the children she serves.
Asres comes from a very poor family background and was forced to leave school after becoming a single mom in the 9th grade to her daughter Zemenay - who is sponsored by Patrick and Shannon McDonough - making it impossible for her to continue her education.
Beyond caring for her own child, Asres also carries the heavy responsibility of supporting her elderly parents, as well as the children of her deceased sister - Amanuel and Tihtina - who are sponsored by Raul and Meg Ramis. Because of these many responsibilities, the family often struggles with food shortages and daily survival remains challenging.
Spiritually, Asres has accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, however due to fear of social pressure from her community and family, she finds it difficult to openly express her faith or attend church regularly.
Despite the many hardships she has faced, Asres has shown great determination to provide for her child and ensure that her daughter continues her education.
Asres expresses deep gratitude to the Haddis Team and Bridge of Hope for the love, support, and sense of belonging they have provided for her and her family during difficult times.
Please pray for Asres for her spiritual growth and courage in her faith, for strength and for God’s provision and blessing in her life and for her family.
