The Young Marine of the Year at the Unit,Regiment,Division, National Level is an important recognition within the Young Marines program. It is an opportunity for the unit to identify and honor a Young Marine who has consistently demonstrated leadership, character, dedication, discipline, teamwork, and a commitment to serving others.
This award should not be based solely on physical fitness, rank, or the number of awards a Young Marine has received. The Young Marine of the Year should represent the overall values and mission of the Young Marines program and demonstrate what it means to be a leader both within the unit and in the community.
The Unit-Level Young Marine of the Year should be someone who:
Leads by example.
Demonstrates strong character and integrity.
Supports and mentors fellow Young Marines.
Participates actively in unit activities and community service.
Demonstrates responsibility, discipline, and teamwork.
Maintains a positive attitude and encourages others.
Represents the Young Marines program with pride and professionalism.
Understands that leadership is about service, responsibility, and setting the example—not simply holding a rank.
Selecting a Young Marine of the Year also gives Young Marines something meaningful to work toward. It reinforces that their daily actions, attitude, leadership, and service matter.
Most importantly, this recognition tells our Young Marines that we see their hard work, we value their contributions, and we expect our future leaders to set the standard for others to follow.
The Young Marine of the Year should not simply be the Young Marine who stands out the most. It should be the Young Marine who best represents what a Young Marine should be.
