This op-ed gets it right: When experienced teachers leave, students lose. Florida can't keep ranking near dead last in teacher pay and expect to keep veteran educators in the classroom.

If lawmakers want better outcomes for students, retaining experienced teachers has to be a priority.

Already underfunded public schools may be excluded from this property tax proposal, but the real impact goes far beyond schools.

This isnโ€™t a tax cut; itโ€™s a tax shift. Local services still have to be paid for, and Florida families could end up footing the bill in other ways.

Before voters make a decision that could reshape communities across the state, they deserve a clear understanding of all the consequencesโ€”intended and unintended.

Packed house last night at our community town hall! We discussed the Disney property tax lawsuits taking away $119 million from OCPS schools and students, the One Mill referendum and why a portion of those funds should be dedicated to increasing educator pay, the outrageous OCPS health insurance proposal that would result in an average 7% take-home pay cut for educators, and other critical issues impacting our schools and community.

CTA is proud to be collaborating with UNITE HERE Local 737 and Local 362. Canvassers have spoken with thousands of Orange County residents, knocking on more than 42,000 doors so far to talk with the community about the impact these issues have on our neighborhoods, schools, children, and families.

The Disney lawsuits are not new, but this campaign comes at an extraordinary moment for public education. At a time when schools are facing significant financial challenges, workers and community members are speaking out and demanding accountability.

You can add your name to the petition asking Disney to drop the lawsuits here:
