Congratulations to Angie Gallo on her election as School Board Chair and to Melissa Lopez Marantes and Gloria Reina O’Neal on their election to the School Board. Diana Moore and Susanne Peña, will advance to the November 3 runoff election.
CTA members helped make these results possible. Educators organized, spoke with colleagues and neighbors, supported candidates, and voted. Our collective involvement mattered.
Orange County voters delivered a mandate: our schools should focus on educating students, not manufacturing division, excluding children, banning books, distorting history, or treating educators as the enemy.
They also sent a message about the change our schools urgently need. Teachers deserve professional respect, a living wage, affordable benefits, and the ability to live and raise their families in the community they serve. Students and employees, including members of the LGBTQ+ community, deserve schools where they are welcomed, valued, and safe.
That mandate must now be heard throughout the district. It is time for change. It is time for teachers to be treated as professionals and paid a living wage so one job is enough.
Our community has spoken. Now it is time for the district to listen, and for all of us to stay engaged to ensure that they do.
