Staten Island has been selected as one of the stops on the Global Irish Famine Way (GIFW), an international heritage trail that expands Ireland's National Famine Way by tracing the journeys of Irish Famine emigrants around the world (nationalfamineway.ie). The trail is marked by bronze shoes cast from a pair discovered in a 19th-century cottage, symbolizing the resilience and perseverance of Famine.

The installation of this memorial is supported through funding from the Consulate General of Ireland in New York as part of the Government of Ireland's America 250 program, which highlights the distinct contributions made by people from the island of Ireland to the United States and its development over the past 250 years.

Additional details about the event will be shared soon, and we invite Irish organizations and residents of Irish ancestry to become involved in this historic commemoration. We are seeking pipe bands and volunteers to assist with organizing and supporting the event. All are welcome.
