This weekend was another reminder of how important connection, movement, and community can be.
On Saturday morning, Return To Base Veteran Project had the opportunity to participate in the Dunedin Veterans Ruck March & Beach Bash alongside the Student Veterans Association and American Legion Post 275.
What started with a simple shared post from one of our volunteers turned into a great morning of camaraderie, conversation, and community connection.
The event was built around one simple idea: show up as you are.
No pressure. No standards to meet. Just veterans, supporters, families, and community members coming together to move, talk, laugh, and spend time around good people.
Some participants completed the ruck to the causeway while others met directly at the beach. Once everyone arrived, we spent the afternoon relaxing by the water, sharing breakfast and lunch, meeting new people, and enjoying the kind of environment many veterans genuinely need more of.
And returning to an area RTB helped clean during our recent Dunedin Causeway community cleanup. Seeing veterans and community members continue to gather there made the experience even better.
We’re grateful to the Student Veterans Association and American Legion Post 275 for putting together an outstanding event and allowing us to be part of it. We’re looking forward to collaborating more in the future.
Events like this are exactly why RTB exists:
purpose, camaraderie, healthy outlets, and rebuilding connection through community.
We’re also continuing to plan future RTB outings, including our upcoming paddle/kayak meetup, so stay tuned!
