Fascinating morning at the Rotary Club of Orlando Downtown with Scott Howat from Orange County Public Schools.

A few things that stuck with us:

➔ U.S. births are at their lowest point in history, two years running - and the 2007 baby peak just graduated. Fewer kids are coming.
➔ The special millage is expected to bring in $255.2M next year, and 72% of it goes straight to teacher pay.
➔ Of every school dollar, 80 cents reaches students directly.
➔ And why is enrollment falling in a growing city? Housing. 88-95% of adults 50+ want to stay in the home they're in, and home turnover is down 41% since 2021.

This is what a Thursday at Rotary gets you - the people and numbers shaping our city, over lunch. Guests are always welcome.
