The FVMA understands the importance of regulations within medical professions, and veterinary medicine is no exception. Over the last few months, our legislative advocacy committee has been hard at work fighting against legislation that would directly and negatively impact veterinarians through the removal or redesignation of essential boards and councils within the DBPR that help support and regulate our profession.

Watch the latest video update from Dr. Richard Williams, AVMA Delegate, to learn more about what this could mean for veterinary medicine in Florida.

When a pet's life is on the line, the Crucial Care Fund is there as an option! Lala needed emergency surgery to remove a dangerous foreign object, but her family couldn’t afford the cost.

That’s where the Crucial Care Fund stepped in. Created in partnership with Frankie's Friends Pet Foundation, this fund provides financial support to Florida pet owners in crisis, ensuring pets like Lala get the urgent care they need.

"There are no words powerful enough to truly express what your kindness means to our family. When you chose to help Lala, you weren’t just assisting a dog in need — you were lifting the weight of fear, uncertainty, and heartbreak from an entire family that loves her more than life itself." — Lala's Family

For Animal Cruelty: This legislative session, the FVMA has been actively monitoring and engaging in efforts to provide insight and offer recommendations to amend the language of an important piece of animal cruelty legislation.

The bill would require veterinary professionals to report suspected cases of animal cruelty observed in their practice, even if those suspected cases happened well in the past. While the FVMA supports the intent, we are advocating for key amendments to protect our members.
