Legislation does not move because people talk about problems. It moves because people show up and do the work.
This week, members of the VAREP Central Florida Chapter were on Capitol Hill meeting directly with Congressional offices to advocate for veteran housing and homeownership issues. Those conversations helped support the passage of the Veterans Affairs Loan Informed Disclosure (VALID) Act as part of the landmark 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act.
While no single organization can claim victory alone, VAREP members across the country played a meaningful role in ensuring lawmakers heard directly from veterans, housing professionals, and military families affected by these issues.
The work doesnโt stop here.
We are already advocating for additional legislation, including the Military Family Literacy Act (MFLA) and other initiatives designed to remove barriers to housing, employment, and improve economic opportunity for veterans and military families.
If you believe change happens in Washington without local leaders getting involved, youโre mistaken. Every bill starts with conversations, relationships, and citizens willing to step forward.
We need more veterans, real estate professionals, lenders, and community leaders willing to engage in the process.
The question isnโt whether our voices matter.
The question is whether enough of us are willing to use them.
