🇺🇸 NATIONAL POW/MIA RECOGNITION DAY 🇺🇸

Friday, September 18, 2026

Around the United States, many observances will feature a single table set apart from the rest.

It is small.
It is dignified.
And it is set for someone who isn't there.

It is called the Missing Man Table, and every item placed upon it carries a deliberate meaning:

🪑 The Empty Chair — Reserved for the missing, representing the person who should be here but is not.

⬜ The Small Table & White Tablecloth — The small table represents the frailty of one prisoner standing alone against his captors. The white cloth symbolizes the purity of their intentions in answering the call to serve.

🌹 The Red Rose — A reminder of the blood that may have been shed and a tribute to the families who continue to wait and remember.

🍋 The Lemon — Represents their bitter fate.

🧂 The Salt — Symbolizes the tears shed by families and loved ones who continue to wait for answers.

🍞 The Bread — Represents the sustenance of life and the hope that those missing may someday return.

🥃 The Inverted Glass — The missing cannot share in the toast with us.

📖 The Bible — Represents the faith that sustains those who continue to hope and pray.

⬛ The Black Napkin — Represents the uncertainty and the unknown surrounding what became of those who never came home.

🇺🇸 The POW/MIA Flag — A solemn reminder that more than 1,565 Americans remain unaccounted for from the Vietnam War alone. They represent just one chapter among several conflicts in which families continue to wait for answers.

Twenty-five years after Sept. 11, 2001, we pause to remember the lives lost, honor the first responders and service members who answered the call, and recognize the resilience of a nation forever changed by that day.

The legacy of 9/11 lives not only in remembrance, but in the generations of Americans who chose service, sacrifice and commitment to something greater than themselves.

Today, we honor the fallen, those who responded in our nation’s darkest hours, and the families whose lives were forever changed.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.
