The world needs us.
Nepal needs our prayers today. But the truth is, so many communities around the world are hurting.
Earthquakes. Floods. Fires. Storms. War. Families losing homes, loved ones, livelihoods sometimes everything they know in a matter of minutes.
It can feel overwhelming. It can be easier to scroll past because there is simply so much suffering.
Please don’t.
Pray. Pay attention. Share their stories. Help when you can. Show up when you’re able. Remind someone thousands of miles away that they have not been forgotten.
At A Hand From Above, we believe humanity has no borders. We may speak different languages and live on opposite sides of the world, but when disaster strikes, we belong to one another.
Today, we pray for Nepal.
Tomorrow, it could be any one of us.
The world needs more people willing to care.
The world needs all of us.

GARY, INDIANA — PLEASE DON’T STOP PAYING ATTENTION.

Sometimes the headlines move on long before the people can.

On August 11, winds reaching 99 mph tore through Gary, Indiana. Trees came down. Power lines fell. Homes and neighborhoods were damaged. Tens of thousands lost electricity.

And for some families, the lights stayed off for nearly two weeks.

Think about that for a moment.

Nearly two weeks without a refrigerator.
Without a way to keep food from spoiling.
Without an easy way to charge a phone.
Without normal access to laundry, Wi-Fi or a hot meal.
For some, without reliable power for essential medical equipment.

People threw away refrigerators full of food. Families lined up for meals. Neighbors searched for diapers, wipes and places to charge their phones.

Today, power has finally been restored to the overwhelming majority of those affected.

But power restored does not mean life restored.

One Gary resident said something that stopped us in our tracks:

“Recovery has not started yet. Getting the power back on just shed light on all the disaster.”

Gary is a community where roughly one in three residents lives below the poverty line. For many families, replacing an entire refrigerator of groceries isn’t an inconvenience—it can be devastating.

A Hand From Above believes disaster relief isn’t about chasing headlines.

It’s about showing up when people still need help after everyone else has stopped looking.

So please—don’t believe that because the lights are coming back on, everything is okay.

Gary, we see you.

Now we are listening, connecting with people on the ground and determining where the unmet needs remain.

Because this is what people helping people looks like.

URGENT COMMUNITY REQUEST

🚨 URGENT WOOD VALLEY / PĀHALA RESIDENTS NEED HELP 🚨

If anyone has a way to help us get in contact with emergency services, Civil Defense, the National Guard, or relief organizations, please reach out.

Wood Valley currently has no safe drinking water. We have children, elderly residents, pregnant women, and families who are stranded and need access to clean drinking water and supplies to safely prepare food.

We are urgently in need of:

💧 Drinking water
🐶 Dog food
🐱 Cat food
🥫 Non-perishable food and basic cooking supplies

We are asking for help getting these supplies into Wood Valley, as access remains extremely difficult after Hurricane Lala and the flooding.

If you are with an emergency response organization, know someone who can coordinate a water delivery, or have a safe way to get supplies to residents, please message us or share this post.

We are not asking for anything beyond basic necessities to keep our community, children, elderly residents, pregnant women, and animals safe.

🌪️ Wisconsin is recovering from devastating tornadoes.
🌊 West Virginia is rebuilding after catastrophic flooding.
🔥 Washington firefighters continue battling massive wildfires.
🌎 And in Venezuela, our trusted search-and-rescue and humanitarian partners continue serving communities impacted by devastating earthquakes.
These photos, taken yesterday by one of our trusted pilots, show Mount Rainier rising above a sea of wildfire smoke a powerful reminder of both nature’s beauty and its incredible force.
When disasters strike, there are no days off for those who answer the call.
