Our Story
The Love Pantry program was conceived in 2011 by the Christian Service Center to remove hunger as a barrier to learning by alleviating childhood hunger and food insecurity in Central Florida public schools. The Love Pantry places an emergency cabinet directly into Orange County and Seminole County Public Schools stocked with 23 common food items and 8 basic hygiene items that is restocked weekly by volunteers, at no cost to the schools or families. When a teacher or counselor identifies a student in need, that student and their family can be provided with food and important community resource information to connect them with longer term solutions. The Love Pantry has distributed more than 822,474 meals since its inception in the Fall of 2011. What began in 13 public schools, the Love Pantry now averages 60-70 schools per year and has alleviated hunger for over 159,032 people, of which 100,908 were children.
