In recent years, food outages are one of the biggest problems in Venezuela. The economic crisis has affected food production companies which leave many citizens without essential food items in their grocery stores such as flour or rice. According to a 2016 study by the National Survey of Living Conditions Venezuela, 93 percent of Venezuelans thought they did not have enough money to purchase food
and only have less than two meals per day. These meals can include just having piece of bread or banana at times. Because of this, Venezuelans have also lost 19 pounds on average. As we try to feed the children, we also want to uplift their minds. Toys are essential for children’s developmental abilities. They allow children to access their creativity and imagination. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, toys are key to developing children’s brain, language interactions, symbolic and pretend play, problem-solving, social interactions and physical activity – and are increasingly important as children move from infancy to toddlerhood.
