Once we achieve official Graduate Chapter status, Orlando will become MALIK Fraternity Inc.'s subsequent Graduate Chapter in the Southeast, behind our Charlotte, NC and DMV Graduate Chapters. The purpose of the Orlando MALIKs is to execute community service, professional d

evelopment, fundraising and cultural awareness events in the Orlando community. MALIK Fraternity, Inc., the first intercollegiate fraternity founded on the principle of African Fraternalism, was founded as MALIK Sigma Psi Fraternity (“MΣΨ”) on Friday, May 13, 1977 at C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University by fifteen conscious and highly motivated young college men, known as the “Crowns” or “Founders”. MALIK Fraternity, Inc. was created for the purpose of promoting academic excellence, social responsibility, integrity, brotherly love, community service, cultural awareness and the acknowledgement of Africa’s impact and influence on the world’s civilization. When the Founders created MΣΨ they chose to emphasize its member’s Afrocentricity and prefers its brotherhood to be labeled as “African Fraternalists”. On May 18, 2002, MALIK Sigma Psi made a significant and ground breaking move in the conscious spirit of progression to adopt the name MALIK Fraternity Inc.

Promoted to Sergeant in 1989, he served in the 75th Precinct in East New York — at the time the busiest precinct in NYC — and later became a Field Training Sergeant, shaping the next generation of officers serving East New York and Brownsville.

In 1997, Bro. Lewis joined the Brooklyn North Task Force’s Disorder Control Unit, responding to large-scale disturbances, civil unrest, and high-risk incidents across Brooklyn.

🧠 For Your Knowledge Friday 🧠

Today we honor Pablo Guzmán (1946–2023) — legendary journalist, activist, and cultural voice whose life’s work left an undeniable mark on Black and Latino liberation movements across the country. ✊🏾🔥

Born in the South Bronx, Pablo rose to national prominence as one of the founding leaders and national spokespeople of the Young Lords Party, a revolutionary Puerto Rican and Afro-Latino organization dedicated to community empowerment, social justice, and systemic change. As one of the movement’s most visible members, Pablo challenged political oppression, fought for dignity in healthcare, housing, and education, and helped redefine what grassroots activism looked like in the 20th century. 🌍💥

After his years on the front lines of activism, Pablo translated that same fire into an award-winning journalism career. As a reporter for CBS News, WCBS-TV, WNBC, and WNEW, he became one of the most recognizable and respected Latino journalists in the country. His storytelling centered the lives, struggles, and triumphs of Black and Brown communities long before mainstream media was willing to listen. 🎙️🗞️

Pablo’s voice was fearless. His integrity was unwavering. And his impact continues to inspire generations of organizers, scholars, and truth-tellers committed to justice and cultural liberation.

His legacy reminds us that our stories are powerful—and telling them is an act of revolution. 🖤🧡
