Valentine’s Day is certainly about love. The kind you say to your significant other, your kids, or family. The kind you show in small ways. And the kind that carries families through the hardest moments of their lives.
Since January 1st, Yellow Brick Road has already stepped in to help at least six families navigating the realities of congenital heart disease. We also, unfortunately, have helped pay for one funeral.
I've banged this drum for 15 years now...Congenital heart disease is the most common birth defect in the United States. It does not care about holidays, income levels, or how strong a family is. It brings unexpected hospital stays, surgeries, missed work, mounting bills, and in the most heartbreaking cases, unimaginable loss.
As Nicole and I know well, child loss is a pain no parent should ever have to endure. When it happens, the grief is overwhelming not just in the immediate, but forever. The financial burden should not be.
Yellow Brick Road: The Holden Flynn Foundation exists to fill in that gap. To pay the bills when a parent has to sit in a hospital room for weeks. To cover travel, meals, or medical-related expenses. And when the unthinkable happens, to help a family lay their child to rest with the dignity he or she deserves.
Today also marks the end of Congenital Heart Disease Awareness Week, however on this Valentine's Day, if you are looking for a way to show love that truly matters, consider supporting families fighting CHD right here in Central Florida.

I miss Holden every day of my life, but we're blessed to have a foundation and support group to help his fight continue. Thank you all for your love the past 11 years. Your generosity becomes someone else’s relief. Your kindness becomes someone else’s strength. And your love becomes something real for a family that desperately needs it.
LOVE YOU ALL!
