In places where following Jesus can come with real danger, God’s Word is still spreading from person to person.

Through oral Bible stories shared in local languages, people are hearing about Jesus in ways they can understand, internalize and naturally share with others.

In Mark 4:33, we read that Jesus taught people through stories “as much as they could understand.”

That same good news is still reaching people today.

In Mark 4:33, Jesus taught people through stories “as much as they could understand.”

Today, God is still using stories to help people engage with His Word in deeply personal ways.

After hearing an oral Bible story about Jesus’ resurrection in her own language, one woman said:

“Before that moment, I had not realized Jesus was a real person.”

That’s why oral Bible stories matter.

Through stories shared in local languages, people are hearing about Jesus in ways they can understand, internalize and share with others.

THE LONG RUN: BIBLES ARE FORBIDDEN — BUT GOD’S WORD IS STILL SPREADING

Maya* had never heard the story of Jesus’ resurrection.
In fact, she had never heard of Jesus at all.

Maya grew up in a place where owning a Bible could lead to severe punishment or even death. Later, while living in another country, she began searching for someone with the power to heal her son of cancer.

She visited shamans and healers, but nothing changed.

Then local Christians prayed for her son.

And his health immediately began to improve.

Jesus used stories so people could understand

In Mark 4:33, we read:
“Jesus used many similar stories and illustrations to teach the people as much as they could understand.”

Interested in this God she had never heard of, Maya attended a Bible study.

But she still struggled to connect with what she was hearing.

She needed to hear the gospel in a different way.

StoryRunners partnered with missionaries serving Maya’s people group to produce Bible stories that were biblically faithful, natural to share and easy to retell in her language.

Suddenly, the things Maya had heard from Christians came alive.

Hearing the story of Jesus’ resurrection shocked her.

Before that moment, she had not realized Jesus was a real person.

“I still felt like I had to keep going to the shaman,” she explained. “But hearing that God raised Jesus from the dead, I know that God is the only one with the power to heal.”

Today, Maya is part of a community of believers who are discipling her.

This is why oral Bible stories matter

In many places around the world, owning Christian material can place believers in danger.

But stories, safe in believers’ hearts, can still be shared from person to person, even in difficult places.

Through oral Bible stories, people are hearing God’s Word for the very first time — and sharing it with others.

These stories change lives.

Because you are part of this story

Your prayers and partnership help make it possible for people in difficult places to hear God’s Word in a way they can understand and naturally share with others.

And in places where Bibles may be forbidden, God’s story is still changing lives.

Your partnership helps more people like Maya hear God’s story for the first time.

A simple next step

Would you pray for believers living in places where following Jesus can come with severe persecution?

And would you pray for people hearing the gospel for the first time through oral Bible stories?

Maya’s story is a reminder that God’s Word is still reaching people in places where access to Scripture is limited and faith can come with great cost.

And sometimes, hearing the story of Jesus for the first time changes everything.

Name changed for security purposes.

What is heard is meant to be passed on.

That’s the picture we see in 2 Timothy 2:2.

One person hears.
Then they retell the story naturally.
Then another person hears.
Then someone else does the same.

Through School of Storying workshops, local believers produce faithful, retellable Bible stories in their own language and communities.

And as those stories are heard and shared again and again, more people have the opportunity to hear God’s Word for themselves.

That’s how the gospel keeps moving.

It doesn’t stop with one voice.

In 2 Timothy 2:2, Paul describes God’s Word moving from one person to another through faithful people willing to share what they have heard.

That’s what we see happening through School of Storying workshops around the world—local believers producing oral Bible stories in their own languages and passing them on in homes, churches and everyday conversations.

And as those stories are shared again and again, more people have the opportunity to hear God’s story for themselves.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗟𝗢𝗡𝗚 𝗥𝗨𝗡: 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗥 𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗖𝗛 𝗦𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗘𝗟𝗦𝗘

“When are you coming?”

Several African leaders asked StoryRunners that question.

Behind those words are communities still waiting to hear God’s Word in a way they can understand, internalize and pass on to others.

That need is why School of Storying teams exist.

HOW THESE STORY BEGIN

The School of Storying is a four-week workshop where local believers produce oral Bible stories in their own language.

The stories are short, faithful to Scripture and easy to retell naturally.

By the end of the workshop, local teams are ready to begin sharing those stories in homes, churches and everyday conversations.

And as those stories are heard again and again, more people have the opportunity to hear God’s story for themselves.

See how it works: https://www.storyrunners.org/sos/

THE WORK CONTINUES THROUGH PEOPLE

StoryRunners coaches from Tanzania, Nigeria and the United States recently traveled together to Ethiopia to help train a new team of people who can facilitate School of Storying projects

Now those leaders are preparing to help others hear God’s Word in their own languages and communities.

What they received, they are preparing to pass on to people who are still waiting to hear.

THIS IS THE PICTURE WE SEE IN SCRIPTURE

In 2 Timothy 2:2, Paul writes:

“What you have heard from me … entrust to faithful people who will be able to teach others also.”

One person hears.
Then another person carries it farther.
Then someone else does the same.

This is how God’s Word continues reaching people through faithful believers.

IT DOESN'T STOP WITH ONE VOICE

As new School of Storying teams are trained, more leaders are being equipped to share Bible stories in places where oral learners may have little or no access to Scripture in written form.

More people have the opportunity to hear.
More people are equipped to tell the stories again.

And the Gospel continues moving from one community to another.

BECAUSE YOU ARE PART OF THIS

Your prayers and partnership help equip local leaders to faithfully pass God’s Word on to others.

And as they train more people, the reach continues to grow.

Would you pray for the multiplication of School of Storying teams around the world as leaders continue equipping others to share God’s Word?

Would you also pray for believers serving in places where following Jesus can come with real danger and persecution?

And would you pray for new churches being planted through oral Bible stories among people who may have never heard the Gospel before?

What is heard is meant to be passed on.

And when faithful people continue sharing God’s Word, more people have the opportunity to hear, understand and respond.

That is how the Gospel continues reaching people who are still waiting to hear God’s story.

Some people learn best through stories they can hear, remember and share.

That’s why oral Bible stories matter.

Across places like Tanzania, Burkina Faso and Togo, people are hearing God’s Word in their own language–and passing it on to others.

One person…then another…then more.
Where might a story open a door this week?

“We will tell the next generation…”

That’s more than a verse.

It’s something we see happen every day.

People are hearing God’s Word in their own language through simple, spoken Bible stories—and then sharing those stories with others in homes, conversations and everyday life.

These stories change lives.
