Profits from the sale of delicious homemade mixes are used to purchase food for other children who would otherwise be without food. The Giving Jar is an exciting way for local children in Central Florida to use their time and efforts to help other children in the community. Local high school students (with the help of parents and other siblings) will create delicious homemade mixes to be sold at a
rea events. These children will also help in sales and other steps along the way. The mixes will include brownie mixes, granola bar mixes as well as others to be introduced in the next few months. The mixes will come with simple to follow instructions which even those with "kitchen anxiety" will easily be able to follow. Customers will be able to bake delicious "from scratch" items at home by using our mixes and adding only a few common ingredients. The Giving Jar will then use 100% of the profits from the sales of our items to purchase food for local backpack programs. These programs provide food for local children who do not have access to food over the weekend while not in school. Across the country, teachers and school nurses have found that in some instances, Monday morning comes and they are forced to compete against hunger for the attention of their students. More than 18 million children qualify for free or reduced price meals through the National School Lunch Program, the fuel that they need to get them through the week. What happens to these children when they go home over the weekend? Without backpack programs, these children will go hungry from Friday afternoon until Monday morning. Fortunately, local groups have organized backpack programs to provide food to children to take home over the weekend so they have meals available while not at school. We are proud to be able to support these wonderful programs and provide more of the necessary food for them to use in their program.
