Sickle Cell Medical Advocacy’s(SCM

A) mission is to advocate for transformative and quality healthcare for Sickle Cell Patients. VISION STATEMENT:
“At SCMA we envision a world where every patient and provider understands the importance of culturally competent care for people with Sickle Cell, where all patients diagnosed with sickle cell disease survive their illness and age with dignity. At Sickle Cell Medical Advocacy(SCMA), a certified medical advocate (trained over two months by a physician expert in Sickle Cell Disease) virtually accompanies a patient with Sickle Cell disease into the hospital/ER during an acute pain crisis and stays in contact with the patient during hospitalization until discharge. The advocate provides updated national guidelines and other resources for Sickle Cell crisis management to all of the patient’s healthcare providers at every point of care. We hope to help Sickle Cell disease patients navigate their ER/hospital visits in order to receive optimal healthcare and decrease end organ damage which increase lifespan and quality of life. Yesterday marked the beginning of our Empowered Patient Course and we are beyond grateful for every advocate, provider, and leader who continues to stand with SCMA.

These are the faces behind the mission. The boots on the ground. The voices showing up for our community every single day.

We are the heart of advocacy in action pushing for better healthcare, better treatment, and ensuring that every sickle cell warrior receives compassionate, informed care when they enter the emergency room or hospital.

Because sickle cell care is not one size fits all.

We are focused on tackling the real challenges our community faces from being unheard to being undertreated and making sure no patient has to fight alone to be believed and properly cared for.
