A) mission is to advocate for transformative and quality healthcare for Sickle Cell Patients. VISION STATEMENT:
“At SCMA we envision a world where every patient and provider understands the importance of culturally competent care for people with Sickle Cell, where all patients diagnosed with sickle cell disease survive their illness and age with dignity. At Sickle Cell Medical Advocacy(SCMA), a certified medical advocate (trained over two months by a physician expert in Sickle Cell Disease) virtually accompanies a patient with Sickle Cell disease into the hospital/ER during an acute pain crisis and stays in contact with the patient during hospitalization until discharge. The advocate provides updated national guidelines and other resources for Sickle Cell crisis management to all of the patient’s healthcare providers at every point of care. We hope to help Sickle Cell disease patients navigate their ER/hospital visits in order to receive optimal healthcare and decrease end organ damage which increase lifespan and quality of life. Grateful to have hosted Allison Morris, our North Florida Healthcare Navigator and president of “We Reign Sickle Cell Association” in our home today! Always good to plan business moves face to face. Her little one is currently our client but one day will be the medical director of SCMA. May God give her courage to add to her already brilliant mind. Thank you Allison for your love for SCMA! It is a joy to work with you.

I really don’t even know where to start with this one. Is that the fight you really want to pick as a physician with a patient, that you “dont give Benadryl and Dilaudid at ZERO years so you’re lying”?And you really don’t know about mast cell degranulation and severe itching that often happens from giving opiates? SMH.
The fight continues!

A patient told her doctor what works for her sickle cell pain. He decided she was lying, and even hinted that she was drug seeking. Let’s talk about sickle cell, bias, and why clinical knowledge should never drown out a patient’s lived experience. | 145 comments on LinkedIn

Warrior Con 2026 may be over, but the impact continues.

We were honored to have several of our SCMA Healthcare Navigators together in Los Angeles, connecting with patients, caregivers, advocates, and healthcare professionals throughout the week. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table, shared your story, asked questions, and learned more about our mission.

The excitement around our Empowered Patient Training was incredible, and we’re thrilled to share that the course officially begins today! There’s still time to join us and take the next step in becoming a more informed, confident, and empowered advocate for your healthcare journey.

Register today at sicklecellmedicaladvocacy.org.

We are so proud of this community and grateful for every opportunity to show up, serve, educate, and ensure the sickle cell community has a strong, informed presence wherever we go. Here’s to continuing the work, together.

Today, we honor two extraordinary leaders whose compassion and dedication continue to change lives every single day.

Carla Coffer, RN and Omerto Anderson, Nurse Practitioner are more than healthcare providers. They are advocates, educators, and champions for the sickle cell community.

Through the Sickle Cell Medical Advocacy team, they volunteer countless hours each week, standing beside warriors during some of their most difficult moments. They help patients communicate with healthcare providers, advocate for timely and appropriate treatment, and ensure every warrior’s voice is heard in the emergency room, the hospital, and beyond.

Their commitment extends far beyond clinical care. They empower patients, educate medical teams, and work tirelessly to improve the healthcare experience for sickle cell warriors across the country.

Because of leaders like Carla and Omerto, warriors know they never have to face their healthcare journey alone.

From all of us at SCMA, thank you for your unwavering service, your compassion, and the hope you bring to our community every day. ❤️🩸

If you take OxyContin, you need to read this! I’m posting it again, as it came up today as the legitimate reason doctors will have to taper patients off the medication, because being on it long term is not sustainable.
