The Second Chance of Florida is a foundation that was established to fund college tuition and book scholarships for students who are demonstrating academic excellence despite personal, economical and financial hardship. Second Chance of Florida Foundation was established to meet the needs of high school students who, despite their good grades, stand little chance at getting a college education. Se

cond Chance of Florida Foundation raises money for college tuition and book scholarships for kids who demonstrate academic excellence in high school despite financial, personal and economic hardships. In particular, the Foundation looks for students who are performing extremely well in school despite the fact that one of their parents are currently incarcerated in jail or prison. In 2011, the Second Chance Foundation opened its doors and its heart and is actively pursuing other charities to partner with in raising funds for these special children.

Meet Maria Cobbs, this year’s Second Chance Scholarship Foundation recipient! Maria’s story is a testament to resilience, grit, and the power of never giving up.

Despite financial challenges limiting her aid options, Maria refused to let anything stand in her way. She’s balancing life as a medical assistant, maintaining a 3.96 GPA, and pushing forward to transfer to UF in Fall 2025. 💪📚

But here’s what’s even more inspiring—Maria doesn’t just take second chances, she gives them. Working in the medical field, she sees firsthand the power of perseverance in her patients. And when it came time to give back, she drove from Gainesville to support our poker tournament, helping us raise funds for future scholarship recipients. Talk about paying it forward! 🔥♠️

Seeing their excitement and potential reminds me just how important it is to continue to invest in our future. Also a big shout out to the Young Lawyers who do some great work.
