The Homestead

The Homestead permaculture, magic & merriment The Homestead was a little urban oasis in Downtown Orlando that cultivated much by the way of community, permaculture and magic.

The former homesteaders have all moved on to other endeavors and you can catch up with Richard Powell (http://permaculture.guru/) and Julie Wilder (http://juliebewilder.com) at their respective websites. We still post semi-occasionally on topics related to these subjects.

I revive my organic restaurateur skills (co-founder and former co-owner of Dandelion Communitea Cafe) and local food expertise with my knowledge of foods for respiratory health together to give you sourcing recommendations for living your best life while sheltering in place. If you need to know where to buy quality food online, this is invaluable and timely information! Lots of local farm recommendations inside!

Before I begin I should give some context. Before I became a co-owner of Spiral Circle, I was co-founder and co-owner of Dandelion Communitea Cafe (an organic, vegetarian cafe) until my exit in 2015. I was an early advocate for organic food and supporting local farms and my focus in menu planning wa...

Roasting would have been easy. But recreating the paleo way of boiling water requires a bit more imagination.

Florida local teaching online string and songwriting classes! Follow for info Gailanne Amundsen....thanks!

Gailanne Amundsen: Fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, bass, lap dulcimer, and voice (solo or harmony singing) in Oxford PA.

Private lessons online (long distance) and on staff at Oxford Arts Alliance.

She describes her teaching approach in the following words:

On all instruments, we will work on playing in rhythm while learning the correct notes so that they ring out brightly. Muscle memory will improve rapidly. Once we get there, we will learn traditional American fiddle tunes and songs in order to quickly bring students to a place where they can enjoy making music with others. I can train your ear to find the notes and the keys of your favorite songs on your chosen instrument, with the help of your own voice. We can break down whatever style of music you like, classics to contemporary, while exploring tunes which are the heart of our folk culture.
My goal is to show you how to practice music alone and then how to play music with others, having fun together.

On fiddle, I will start by teaching beginning students a traditional form, posture and technique for holding the bow and fiddle.

On banjo, I will teach the very versatile clawhammer style, which allows students to play both melodies and chords.

On guitar, I will teach chords, bass runs and how to change quickly and in rhythm. Backup styles for songs and tunes.

You can also try different instruments in my classes and I can teach you how to recognize chords and keys on other instruments.
I enjoy teaching beginners, as well as more advanced students, and can work well with all ages. Let's get started today!

"Johnson asserts that if his approach were used across agriculture internationally, the entire world’s carbon output from 2016 could be stored on just 22 percent of the globe’s arable land. He says that would provide net benefits of $500 to $600 per acre rather than net costs, if credits are provided for carbon capture and related benefits are counted, such as reduced irrigation and increased soil fertility."

Every year you help me raise money for printing with a summer sale until we've made enough to cover the cost. I literally can't do it without you & so it is my practice to give not only a discount but also a gift. This year, when you order a bundle, you'll get a free print.
