“I struggled with seeing how my art was ever important to God,” says Joshua Luker, furniture designer () and ‘22 alum. “I always felt that I had to take off my ‘artist cap’ when it came to theology or church related discussions activities and put on the ‘Christian cap.’ I had two different identities that were at conflict most of the time. Arts Fellowship Orlando taught me the opposite. The classes and discussions revealed to me how important art [is] to God, and how much more important the artist [is] to God.”

Lauren Theriault (‘23 alum) is an Orlando-based choreographer and dancer. She grew up immersed in the arts, and began her dance training at the age of 13 in ballet, modern, and jazz. Lauren attended Palm Beach Atlantic University and has degrees in Graphic Design and Dance Performance & Choreography. While she was there, she trained in ballet under the direction of Eileen Hebron (former Corps member with American Ballet Theatre), as well as Jin Hanley, Ivy Platt, and other internationally known modern and ballet dancers. Lauren has international dance experience as well as several awards, and enjoys both performing and choreographing in professional dance companies in the Orlando area.

She has also received her Masters Degree in mental health counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary. She has enjoyed exploring the intersection of all these areas, always finding new ways to tell a story, bring new perspective, and point others to the ultimate Creator, God.

From singers to filmmakers, dancers to musicians, sculptors to painters, Arts Fellowship Orlando is a 6-month residency for mature, Christian creatives. At the intersection of art and faith, artists will hone their discipline in the creation of an original work. Up to (6) artists will be selected and each will receive a $7,500 scholarship.

Kristen Valle Yann is a classically trained representational oil painter. Born and raised in a rural town just north of Tampa, Kristen spent much of her childhood inspired by nature and the quiet beauty around her. In 2018, Kristen received a BFA from Florida State University. Currently, Kristen is a full-time artist, working in subjects from portrait and figure, to landscape and still life, each representing a still and contemplative quality.

Kristen’s work has honored her notable recognition with various organizations such as The Portrait Society of America and the Almenara Art Prize. Her work can be found at Collins Galleries in Cape Cod and Sugarlift Gallery in New York City along with public and private collections around the world. Her current project, FL GRL, explores themes of impermanence, longing, and the subtle beauty of old Florida landscapes, inviting viewers to reflect on the passage of time, place, and memory.

As a spoken word poet, singer, and musician, Aretha distills the ups and downs of humanity’s relationship with God into soulful words, rhythms, and immersive performances. Her passion is to create faith-based content to meet others where they’re at in life.
