The Rotary Club of International Drive - Orlando is located in District 6980, covering the Central Florida Area. The club has over 20 members representing a diverse range of professional classifications--including hospitality, tourism, business, education, technology, and international business.

Last Wednesday, our Rotary Club of International Drive in Orlando welcomed our District Governor, Dr. Dick Harris, during his official visit to our “small but mighty” club. The Governor shared great updates related to our global theme of “Unite for Good” and inspired us to drive impact in our local and global community. We are excited to continue helping our community through our support of The Salvation Army - Orlando Area Command, and many more volunteer initiatives around Central Florida.

Yesterday, members or our Rotary Club of I-Drive woke up early to visit our parent club—the Rotary Club of Lake Buena Vista (Orlando, Florida). We got to see many of our Rotarian friends from District 6980, and also had a great opportunity to learn about the “I-4 Beyond” project that is improving Interstate 4 across Central Florida. And also, we all got to enjoy the Mickey Mouse waffles and made-to-order omelettes!

The members of the Rotary Club of I-Drive are saddened by the loss of our friend, Rubens Debs—husband to our dear Club President Michelli—and a Rotarian at heart as so many spouses are, always willing to help, support, and encourage us to Serve Above Self.

Rubens Marcondes Debs, 57, of Orlando, Florida passed away on September 1, 2024. He was born on October 24, 1966 in Sao Paulo, Brazil to Rubens Jabor Debs and Nair Marcondes Debs. Rubens is survived by his wife, Michelli Denardi Tamburus.

Our friend Rubens was a gentle, caring, intelligent, and educated man—but above all, a person full of humanity and goodwill. Always willing to smile and be cheerful, we are certain God has welcomed him with open arms into His Glory.

Rubens’ Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, September 21st at 1:00 PM, to be held at A Community Funeral Home & Sunset Cremations, located at 910 W. Michigan Street, Orlando, FL 32805.

Early this morning, members of our Rotary Club of International Drive - Orlando (Central Florida) joined other Rotarians from Rotary District 6980 / Rotary Central Florida to volunteer at the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida to continue fulfilling our annual “Million Meals” goal. Thank you Club President Michelli Denardi, Club Secretary Veronica Olivo-Goyanes, Service Project Chair Robert (Bob) Glinka (and his wife Pam), and PDG Andrés Goyanes for your efforts. We assembled 800+ ready-to-eat meal backpacks that amount to more than 7,500 meals for homeless people in our area.

Today, Club President Michelli and attending club members welcomed Gisela Domancich and Lucas Herrero, visiting Orlando from the Rotary Club Dominico from Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is always great to meet fellow Rotarians during our weekly meetings.

This Saturday morning, members of our Rotary Club of International Drive - Orlando (Central Florida) teamed up with the The Salvation Army - Orlando Area Command in their goodwill ministry to underserved communities in Central Florida. Earlier in the day we prepared sandwiches at the Salvation Army’s HQ in Downtown Orlando, and then we jumped on the shuttle to visit a few different locations where people awaited to receive food and clothing donations. This is one of our quarterly “People or Action” volunteering projects, which helps us see the needs of people in the community—and the we get to do our part in helping put a smile in their faces. This morning, members of the Rotary Club of International Drive - Orlando gathered at our local Panera Bread to prepare a new batch of student dictionaries to be gifted this Wednesday to 3rd grade students at Tangelo Park Elementary-OCPS. This annual service project addresses Education—Rotary’s 5th area of focus—during the month of September, which also carries the theme of Basic Education and Literacy worldwide. This is just one example of Rotary Central Florida at work in Rotary District 6980.
