This past weekend we partnered with the Society of St. Andrew - Florida and 4Roots Farm Campus to glean cucumbers. It was a huge success collecting close to 5,000 pounds of fresh cucumbers. Those cucumbers are being redistributed to organizations that help those in need. We could not have done this without our wonderful community partners, and we tip off our hats to a job well done! 👩‍🌾🥒🌱

Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson and Katharine Wilkinson co-edited an anthology called “All We Can Save,” which is a collection of female voices speaking on the climate crisis through essays, poetry, and more. In Katherine’s podcast “A Matter of Degrees” they invited Leah Penniman to come read her essay from the anthology titled “Black Gold” where she talks about reclaiming ancestral connection to the soil and the healing of Black Farmers from oppressive systems. It highlights the importance of human connection with soil and how this connection is vital to mitigating climate change. Check it out!

Orange County Backyard Chicken Ordinance was passed last night. Orange County was the first local municipality to start this push seven years ago when it was voted down. Today that has changed, and residents can now have backyard chickens through this permitting process.

Orange County joined the flock of local governments allowing backyard chickens with commissioners voting unanimously Tuesday to adopt a program. Neighbors won’t have veto power, but they’ll get notice about a coop going up next door.
