Please join us in welcoming Christopher J. Cuevas (they/them/elle) as Contigo Fund’s new Program Manager.
Christopher is a movement strategist, community organizer, and resource mobilizer with deep roots in Orlando and across the South. Their work spans grassroots organizing, philanthropy, public health, political education, grantmaking, and movement building, with a longstanding commitment to Black, Latine, Indigenous, q***r, and trans communities.
Christopher’s relationship with this community goes back many years. Following the Pulse tragedy in 2016, they co-founded QLatinx and served as its inaugural executive director, helping build a local racial, social, and gender justice organization advancing intersecting LGBTQ+ Latine issues. Through that work and the years that followed, Christopher has worked alongside many of the leaders, organizations, and communities that have shaped Orlando’s q***r and Latine movement history and Contigo Fund’s own development.
Their experience extends beyond Central Florida while remaining grounded in the South. Christopher led the LGBTQ+ Equality grantmaking program at the Laughing Gull Foundation, directing more than $2 million to LGBTQ+ organizations working at the intersections of racial, gender, and economic justice across the region.
At AIDS United, Christopher established the Conexiones Positivas Fund and directed more than $1 million to healthcare providers, researchers, harm reductionists, and community-based organizations supporting the health and well-being of Latine communities living with HIV across the United States and Puerto Rico.
In partnership with the Trans Justice Funding Project, they also helped mobilize nearly $1 million for grassroots organizations led by and serving transgender people across the United States, Puerto Rico, and American Samoa. Christopher has also served as a trustee for Philanthropy Southeast, where they helped advance more equitable and trust-based practices in Southern philanthropy.
Across these roles, Christopher has helped move millions of dollars to grassroots organizations and movement leaders advancing racial, gender, economic, and health justice. They bring experience from both sides of the work: organizing within community and managing resources within philanthropy. They understand what it takes to build programs, navigate funding systems, sustain partnerships, and support organizations beyond the grant itself.
As Contigo continues strengthening our grantmaking, expanding our cohort and capacity-building work, and deepening our support for partners across Florida, Christopher will help guide our grantmaking processes, partner relationships, convenings, and movement-building programs.
Their connection to Contigo also comes full circle. In 2022, we recognized Christopher with Contigo Fund’s Legacy Award for their contributions to our community. We are proud to now welcome them to our staff team and into the next chapter of Contigo’s work.
