Saint Omer is director Alice Diop's first narrative fiction film. Her background in documentary focuses on contemporary French society, and she credits her intuition for leading her to attend the high-profile trial of Fabienne Kabou. Diop did not truly decide to make a film about the experience until the trial ended.

**INTRODUCING** Cinnabar Subplot!

While we can't wait for our next screening, we're also really excited to try something new this month. Cinnabar Subplot is a way to be curious together in other spaces and check in on life and creative projects. Cinnabar has always had community at its core and we want to continue to invest in our people!

Join our first Subplot on June 13th! We'll meet at 2pm at Orlando Museum of Art 🎨 to explore the Florida Prize exhibit (and others), then wander to Rav Pig Beer Garden 🍺 by 4pm for drinks. Bring any ideas for other new things you'd like to see us try, but it's nothing formal! No tickets, come for one or both, just shoot us a message if you think you can make it. 🥂

Welcome to June and our next screening at ! Our fearless co-founder is hosting again and he's chosen Saint Omer. Here's why—

"I'm a sucker for courtroom dramas; there's something exhilarating about digging through clues to solve a mystery. Why is why Saint Omer left me incredibly intrigued by revealing the whole senseless crime in the first few minutes! The only thing we're left with is the why? This film is a mystical experience of love and grief that will pierce you in some really unexpected ways."

We had such a great time a week ago! Many thanks to for having us and to for knocking it out of the park on her first time hosting 🙌

We had a rich conversation as well, touching on numerous personal stories about leaving home, types of memory, and the ways we did or didn't inherit a healthy way of processing emotion from parents and grandparents. It's a gift to sit with our stories and emotions in community. We also talked about how physical artifacts like pictures are such an anchor in the film, so here's a few of our own to help you reminisce!

Director Walter Salles brought the entire cast together a month before shooting to live in the house. They ate together and forged genuine relationships that set the stage for their performances. Salles then filmed chronologically, allowing for improvised scenes, emotions, and authentic reactions—especially for the kids. As the film progresses, we watch them literally grow into their characters.

Thanks for traversing the multiverse with us! So grateful for each person who came, plus for hosting and for the awesome space. Everything Everywhere is all about how connections, not decisions, actually power the universe and we feel that energy every time we get together. While life (and family) can be challenging, we appreciated the encouragements to "ignore the noise and focus on pure moments" and "look at life with curiosity." Let's keep making those invisible contributions to communal wholeness, just like Waymond does. ☯
