Welcome to your diabetes community!

Bringing everyday support to individuals and families impacted by type 1 and type 2 diabetes in Central FL
501(c)(3) Non-profit organization originally founded as a high school club called Dance Diabetes Away Project Developed in 2011 from a high school club, known as the Dance Diabetes Away Project (D.D.A), it was founded by Christina Martin and her best friend. After she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 13 years old, her goal was to make sure that children and families did not go through the scary, confusing, and lonely feelings that can come from being diagnosed with a chronic disease with no cure. The club was the first step and today, we are honored to be a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that supports and creates a positive community with over 500 families impacted by diabetes, like Christina’s. We have small groups, empowering events, mentorship, and are working towards helping people access what they need to live healthier lives.

Every week, we’re asked how much our events, small groups, and classes cost and we’re always excited to share that they don’t. Finding a support system while living with diabetes is hard enough. Because of organizations like Tandem Diabetes Care and LevelUP Diabetes that are on a mission to make diabetes care affordable and sweet (pun intended), everything we do is affordable or completely free to you and your family! 1 idea to bring the community together + 1 gym to make it reality + 22 volunteers and organizations teaming up to create it = A special night of bravery and pride, despite living with diabetes. This is Diabetes Ninja Night, a free, accessible event we are proud to give to the Central Florida diabetes community once every year. The 4th one was a success this year, with our youngest ninja only 6 years old and our oldest 58. Time to take ninja class at ONA, attend your supportive small group with Type Zero, and we’ll see everyone back again next year!

💙🥷 Alright y’all… DIABETES NINJA NIGHT is coming up THIS SATURDAY , AUGUST 8, Are you ready? I’m so ready!
This night always feels like a big exhale. It’s one of those rare moments where you walk in and instantly know you’re surrounded by people who get it. The highs, the lows, the “did that really just happen?” Ninja moments… all of it.
Whether you’re newly diagnosed, have been doing this for years, or you’re showing up for someone you love, you’re welcome here. We’ll cheer each other on, try some tough ninja challenges, so much fun , and walk away feeling a little lighter and a lot more connected.💙🥷🌻🐝

Diabetes is tough — but nights like this remind us we don’t have to carry it alone.

We’re grateful that the Global Liver Institute contacted us and invited Type Zero to begin building an allied partnership bridge between diabetes and liver health advocacy. Here are some life saving takeaways we learned this past weekend:

1. Liver diseases are silent and often go undetected early on, just like diabetes symptoms. It’s important that all of us adults request liver screening when we go in for our yearly check ups.
2. Most liver diseases can be reversed with healthy exercise, nutrition, support, and medication as needed. So don’t be afraid to get screened. You can prevent unnecessary complications in your life.
3. Because the liver is an innocent bystander to the drama queens known as our pancreases, diabetes puts us more at risk of gradually developing liver issues. Eating well and exercising helps us manage blood sugars AND take care of our livers. Be a Liver 💪💉💙

We are excited to announce that the Type Zero Foundation is working with Panda Express for a nationwide online fundraiser!

Type Zero Foundation is joining the Breakthrough T1D Meet Up on 4/25 (formerly JDRF’s Walk for a Cure) — and we want YOU with us!

We’re building our team to walk together in support of everyone living with diabetes. Volunteers will be on-site to welcome walkers and hand out Type Zero Foundation bags. 🎒

👕 Team shirts available until 4/17— a portion of proceeds benefit the Brandi Hoffman Scholarship. Can’t attend? You can still support by purchasing a shirt!
