This is one of those stories worth stopping for.

A huge thank you to for donating a kidney to a complete stranger and to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon for bringing living donation into a conversation millions of people will see.

Many people are surprised to learn that you can live a healthy life with one kidney. For someone waiting on a transplant, living donation can mean avoiding years on a waiting list, spending less time in dialysis, and getting the chance to return to the life they want to live.

Kidney donation isn’t just giving an organ. It’s giving someone more time with their family, more birthdays, more holidays, more memories, and more life.

At the National Kidney Foundation of Florida, we’re trying to reach 1% of Florida with kidney education, transplant awareness, and information about living donation. That’s where you come in.

You never know who in your family, workplace, church, or circle of friends is living with kidney disease, waiting for a transplant, or at risk and doesn’t even know it yet.

Should race determine how kidney function is measured?

The National Kidney Foundation and leading pharmacy organizations are calling for a nationwide transition to race-free kidney function calculations when making medication decisions.

Why does this matter?

Because every patient deserves care based on the best available science—not outdated assumptions.

This change supports more accurate medication dosing, greater consistency in care, and a more equitable approach to kidney health.

Here in Florida, where kidney disease affects thousands of families, advances like this matter. Earlier identification, better treatment decisions, and improved access to care can help change outcomes for people living with chronic kidney disease.

▸ 1 in 7 adults has kidney disease.
▸ 90% don't know they have it.
▸ Better tools can lead to better care.

The future of kidney care may be closer than we think.

What if the future of kidney care looks completely different than it does today?

From artificial intelligence and precision medicine to xenotransplantation and regenerative therapies, researchers and innovators are exploring breakthroughs that could transform how kidney disease is detected, treated, and managed in the years ahead.

At the National Kidney Foundation's Spring Clinical Meetings, experts spotlighted emerging technologies that may help improve outcomes, expand access to transplantation, personalize treatment, and create new possibilities for people living with kidney disease.

While these innovations are still evolving, one thing is clear: the future of kidney care is being built today.

▸ Earlier detection
▸ More personalized treatment
▸ Expanded transplant opportunities
▸ New approaches to kidney replacement therapies

The future is promising, but awareness, education, and early action still matter today.

You trust your doctor.

You get your labs drawn.

You assume if something was wrong, someone would tell you.

And yet 90% of people with kidney disease don’t know they have it.

Read that again.

Ninety percent.

Diabetes. High blood pressure. Cardiovascular disease. Anemia. Protein in the urine. Changes in kidney function.

The information exists.

This isn’t about blame. It’s about awareness.

Fear doesn’t help. Facts do.

If you have risk factors, ask the questions. What is my eGFR? Have I had a UACR urine test? Am I at risk? What is our plan?

Sometimes what we fear isn’t the truth. Sometimes what we’re not paying attention to is exactly what we need to know.

Know the facts. Ask the questions. Don’t wait until “we’re watching it” becomes dialysis.

🧡 And seriously, apple ... when are we getting a kidney emoji?
