A lot of Main Street work happens where you’ll never see it.

Yes, we do events, murals and business promotions. But we also advocate.

Yesterday, our Executive Director Stephanie Ziglar gave public comment on Vision 2050 and Orange Code, advocating for changes that would help Curry Ford West businesses grow, reinvest and compete. Because when our district crosses City of Orlando and unincorporated Orange County lines, businesses literally across the street from each other can face very different rules.

Sometimes supporting small business looks like a packed event. Sometimes it looks like standing at a microphone asking for better policy.

This is Main Street work, too. 🧡

Yesterday, our Executive Director Stephanie Ziglar spoke during public comment on Vision 2050 and Orange Code about a challenge Curry Ford West businesses know all too well: businesses literally across the street from each other can face completely different rules simply because one sits in the City of Orlando and the other in unincorporated Orange County.

Outdated zoning can mean lost revenue, vacant storefronts and fewer opportunities for our businesses to grow and reinvest right here in their neighborhood.

Events and murals may be the most visible part of Main Street, but advocacy is part of the work, too.

On any given day at The Commission Beer Chamber, you’ll find good beer, hip-hop, dominoes, neighbors posted up at the bar and Benny somewhere in the middle of it all. Add Vinyl Nights, weekly beer chugs and a vibe that is VERY Commission. 🍻🎶

Our August Business of the Month opened six years ago in the middle of COVID, and owner Benny Colón has been holding it down ever since.

From Parking Lot Block Parties and Knicks playoff games to releasing mixtapes and visiting CFW businesses for Mister Blanco’s Neighborhood, Benny is also one of the loudest advocates for making sure people know the name Curry Ford West. And we love him for it. 🧡
