Happy Birthday, Claude Debussy 🎂🎶

Today we celebrate French composer Claude Debussy (1862–1918), an influential composer who pioneered musical impressionism.

🌙 Did you know? Debussy’s beloved Clair de Lune translates to “Moonlight” in French. The piece's gentle harmonies and dreamlike character evoke a feeling of serenity, mystery, and reflection—making it one of Debussy’s most recognizable works.

Today, we celebrate Debussy’s legacy and the countless ways his music continues to inspire musicians and listeners around the world 🎻

A Gift for Music was founded on the idea that all students, regardless of their socioeconomic status, should have access to the life-changing benefits of a quality music education. Founded in 1999, A Gift for Music is A Gift for Teaching’s flagship arts education program designed to provide students with musical enrichment, practice, and performance. Since its inception, A Gift for Music has worked with more than 11,000 students throughout Central Florida, teaching them how to play string instruments and transforming them into dedicated, lifelong musicians.

Last week, Lynn Lefebvre came by AGFT to donate her childhood violin and share her musical journey 🎶

Lynn Lefebvre, R.A., was the Project Manager/Architect on the original Big Schoolhouse Project in 2004. SchenkelSchultz Architecture, the firm Lynn recently retired from, provided all of the design services at no cost for the remodeling of what had been a warehouse into the beautiful facility that is now AGFT. Lynn was immediately charmed to learn that A Gift for Music was a major program of A Gift for Teaching and told me that she still had the violin she learned to play on as an elementary and HS student. Twenty-two years later, she was delighted that I was still at AGFT and that we would be honored to receive her violin for AGFM. As an added bonus, she shared the very charming story of being photographed in 1969, playing said violin with classmates as they welcomed Dr. Suzuki on the tarmac of the Syracuse Airport.
