⚾️ A Week They’ll Never Forget ⚾️
What a ride for our 12U Gorilla Kings at Cooperstown All Star Village!
Out of 94 teams from across the country, the Gorilla Kings earned their way into the Championship Bracket, which consisted of the top 32 teams in the tournament, by going 4-1-1 in pool play. Their only loss came to a national team that is #18 in the country who went on to win the entire event.
One of the most memorable moments of the week came in pool play when the Gorilla Kings battled back from a 4-run deficit in the final inning to earn an exciting tie against a talented Majors team. The grit and resilience these boys showed all week was incredible.
In bracket play, the Kings came out swinging, building a 12-1 lead against the #6 seed—a team made up of handpicked players from around the Houston area. But if there’s one thing Cooperstown teaches you, it’s that no lead is safe. The opposition launched four home runs to battle back, and the game ultimately ended in a heartbreaking Texas tiebreaker.
Speaking of home runs… the Gorilla Kings put on an offensive show all week, blasting 17 home runs by 9 different players! 💣💣💣
But as special as the baseball was, the memories made away from the field were even better.
From trading pins with players from around the country, to late nights in the bunkhouse, to spending an entire week together with some of their best friends, these are the moments they’ll remember long after the final score is forgotten.
This is what youth sports is all about.
We are incredibly proud of this homegrown group of young men. They represented OBP with class, competed with some of the best teams in the nation, and proved they belong on that stage.
The rings eventually collect dust, but the friendships, memories, and experiences from this week will last a lifetime.
