When there's a hurricane and an earthquake but you're a Sharing Smiles International volunteer so you take a train from Orlando to Miami to catch new flights, travel a total of 48+ hours, and still make it to Cochabamba Bolivia in time to deliver life changing care. Love in action 💜

Happy World Smile Day! A few fun facts about smiles:

😊A simple smile triggers your brain to release dopamine, serotonin, and endorphins, which lift your mood and act as natural painkillers.

😊Turning up the corners of your mouth lowers your heart rate and reduces cortisol levels in your body.

😄Genuine laughter and smiling reduce physical tension and help strengthen your immune system over time.

And last but not least....100% of patients who interact with Dr. Hunter leave with a happy, healthy smile! Thanks to the volunteers, staff, and donors who made it possible to serve over 50 children with world-class dental care in our newly opened clinic.

Detrás de cada niño con fisura labio alvéolo palatina hay una familia esperando el momento de verlo sonreír sin barreras. Este octubre, ese momento llega a Cochabamba. 💙

Junto al Rotary Club Cochabamba y Ayninakuna, realizaremos una campaña gratuita de cirugías de fisura labio alvéolo palatina en el municipio de Vinto.

Last Friday we gathered to celebrate the birthday of our board chair, Dr. Chris Dobson! Even on his birthday he was working on our new electronic medical record, which will help us link more children to timely, high-quality cleft care. Luckily we convinced him to briefly exchange his tablet for a cupcake. Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate and to everyone who works behind the scenes every day to further our mission, we love you!

💙 Meet Colonel Paul Farineau, US Army Nurse Corps — one of the incredible volunteers who's given his time to Sharing Smiles. From 2016 to 2018, Paul joined our mission trips to Tarapoto, Peru, serving on a 20-person team in the recovery room. His favorite moment? Watching parents walk in after their child's cleft surgery — often not recognizing them at first glance, then breaking into joy as it sinks in. "That event brought a smile to me every time I would see their reaction."
