AVOID THESE SOLAR ERRORS!
* Make sure you get your system sized correctly for your energy needs. Otherwise youβll have an electric bill and a solar bill.
* Know the truth about the 26% tax credit. Not everyone can utilize it. And make sure you know how much your solar payment will be if you donβt utilize it. Some salespeople will skim over that very crucial part of information which can be very misleading.
* All systems over 11.7 kilowatts require a million dollar home insurance policy when your net metering gets turned on. Thatβs the Florida law. Some salespeople avoid selling you a larger system in order to avoid the uncomfortable topic of the policy. But itβs really no big deal - and itβs better to get fit correctly and eliminate your electric bill, than to get undersold and not have 100% offset on your energy bill.
* Getting a subpar inverter could mean a continuous headache for you and your family. A modern technology inverter means that your system will be monitored for errors and failures, and is likely to work flawlessly. It also includes a cool APP that allows you to see how much energy your home is producing at any given time.
* Know that your solar panels wonβt give your home electricity if the power goes out, UNLESS you have a backup battery. Solar will save you a lot of money, but itβs not an energy backup on its own. You need a backup battery for that.
* Florida is an on-grid state. So your home will always be connected to the grid, but thatβs how youβre able to sell your energy back to your energy company and save money. So thatβs a good thing. But youβll always have a small fee ($10-$15) charged by your energy company to be connected to the grid.
