I found myself getting uncharacteristically emotional at Musical Mondays this evening while Jose so beautifully performed ‘I Will Always Love You.’ I was thinking about how incredible the last week has been at the Ren. In just one week, we’ve hosted such incredible talent in Disco Boots, we hosted a Ball with the Central Florida Ballroom Collective, the Vixens took the stage last night for an incredible space filled with Sapphics, OTR welcomed TWELVE up-and-coming drag performers, and the energy at Musical Mondays is matched only by the talent in the room.
For six months last year, we temporarily lost our home at 415 E. Princeton Street. And it was really hard. And I’m not really over it if I’m honest. But that temporary loss did give me this: I will never take this place for granted, and I’ll work hard every day to curate a place where every person in our community feels not just comfortable to be who you are, but authentically *proud* of who you are. I hope the Ren makes you proud. We are so privileged to do what we do.
Happy Pride Month, friends. May our pride bring forth a renaissance not just of art, but a renaissance of love, of joy, and of community.
