🎖️🇺🇸 Meet one of the inspiring women featured in She Proudly Served: Women in the Military: Debbie Perina.

Debbie enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at just 18 years old, where she trained in electronics and specialized in ground radio repair. After her military service, she went on to build a successful 32-year career with CBS before retiring in 2018. Today, she continues her commitment to service by volunteering with several veterans organizations, including the Tri-County Women Honor Guard, The Villages Veterans Memorial Park Honor Guard, and Villages Honor Flight.

🐢💚 Meet Gold Award Girl Scout Hannah!

Through her project, The Hardshell Project, Hannah turned her passion for wildlife into meaningful conservation action for land turtles. At the Marine Discovery Center, she created a thriving garden that grows fresh vegetables like lettuce, peppers, and sweet potatoes to help nourish rehabilitating tortoises.

Beyond the garden, Hannah built an educational website to raise awareness about land turtle conservation and help her community understand how to protect these often-overlooked animals.

Join us at the Women’s History & Cultural Center for an interactive day celebrating the women who have proudly served our country! Families will meet women veterans, complete mission-inspired activities, and explore the courage, leadership, and dedication behind military service. 💚

🩺🇺🇸 Meet one of the inspiring women featured in She Proudly Served: Women in the Military: Colonel Joan “Doc” Sullivan.

A physician, nurse, and Army Reserve officer, Colonel Sullivan dedicated her career to caring for others through both medicine and military service. She served in key medical leadership roles during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, provided medical support at Ground Zero following 9/11, and retired in 2014 as State Surgeon for the New York Army National Guard. Her distinguished service earned her numerous honors, including two Bronze Stars and two Legions of Merit.

🎓✨ Meet Gold Award Girl Scout Gabriella!

Through her project, Girl Scouts’ Path to College: Your Dual Enrollment Handbook, Gabriella turned confusion about college planning into clarity and confidence for students and families. She created a student-friendly guide to dual enrollment and hosted an in-person event where participants could ask questions, explore resources, and feel empowered about their future.

From printed handbooks to digital access and meaningful conversations, Gabriella helped make higher education pathways more understandable and accessible for her community.

🎥✨ Meet Gold Award Girl Scout Emerson!

Through her project, News Crew Mentoring Program, Emerson rebuilt a school broadcast journalism program that empowers students to find their voices and share their stories. She created a sustainable mentorship system where high school students teach middle schoolers skills like anchoring, camera work, and storytelling.

Over 100+ hours, Emerson led weekly sessions, developed lesson plans, and guided students as they gained both technical skills and confidence in front of the camera—helping turn a fading program into a thriving school newsroom.

⚓💚 Meet one of the inspiring women featured in She Proudly Served: Women in the Military: Sue Roper.

A South Florida native, Sue Roper served more than two decades in the U.S. Navy, rising from enlisted Sailor to Commander in the Navy Nurse Corps. Her career took her to military hospitals across the United States and Japan, where she combined her passion for nursing, leadership, and education in service to others.

Even after retiring, Sue has continued to champion veterans through teaching, writing, and advocacy. She co-authored Ruff’s War: A Navy Nurse on the Frontline in Iraq and was inducted into the Florida Veterans Hall of Fame in 2024 for her lasting contributions to the veteran community.

🍽️✨ Meet Gold Award Girl Scout Temperance!

Through her project, Culinary Careers, Temperance turned her passion for cooking into an interactive experience that introduced young people to the many opportunities within the food industry. She hosted a hands-on Culinary Career Day where participants explored roles like executive chef and food stylist while building real kitchen skills.

From knife skills and food safety to recipe reading and culinary techniques, Temperance’s stations transformed curiosity into confidence for all 26 participants—and provided take-home resources to keep learning going.

💙🇺🇸 Meet one of the inspiring women featured in She Proudly Served: Women in the Military: Deloris “Dee” Quaranta.

After serving 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, Dee Quaranta dedicated her post-military career to supporting fellow women veterans. As the Founder and CEO of Women Veterans Ignited, Inc., she has spent more than a decade providing resources, advocacy, and a strong support network for women veterans and their families. Her lifelong commitment to service has earned her numerous honors, including induction into the Florida Veterans Hall of Fame.

📚💚 Meet Gold Award Girl Scout Elena!

Through her project, Loaning Library, Elena transformed a simple idea into a lasting solution for her school community. Noticing the rising cost of curriculum books and the number of usable books being discarded, she organized a school-wide book drive, collected 351 books, and built a sustainable lending system with a QR code check-in/check-out process.

Her work is helping students access the resources they need while promoting reuse and reducing waste—creating a library designed to continue long after her graduation.
