🎶💚 Meet Gold Award Girl Scout Veda!

Through her project, Girls Who Trombone, Veda is helping change the conversation around gender representation in music. She created a website that explores why so few girls choose the trombone, while providing resources and inspiration to encourage more young musicians to pick up the instrument with confidence.

Her project has reached audiences in 16 countries, sparked conversations with educators and musicians, and empowered girls to see themselves represented in every section of the band.

⚽💚 Meet Gold Award Girl Scout Tatiana!

Through her project, Game Day, Tatiana created more opportunities for children at Boys Town to play, learn, and grow through sports. She transformed an empty space into a fully stocked sports closet with donated soccer equipment and organized a fun-filled soccer event that introduced children to teamwork, confidence, and the joy of the game.

By creating a sustainable system for maintaining the equipment, Tatiana ensured future generations of youth will continue to have access to the resources they need to play and thrive.

🍎🌳 Meet Gold Award Girl Scout Sydney!

Through her project, Fruit Forest, Sydney transformed an empty space into a thriving community garden that provides fresh fruit, supports local food banks, and teaches others how to grow their own food. By planting fruit trees, creating educational signage, training volunteers, and developing an online guide, she built a lasting resource that nourishes both people and the community.

Her project is proof that when people come together, they can grow more than food—they can grow knowledge, resilience, and hope.

🪖💚 Meet one of the inspiring women featured in She Proudly Served: Women in the Military: Ruth Jones.

Ruth Jones served in the Women’s Army Corps during World War II, completing her training as a surgical technician before serving across multiple states caring for patients in military hospitals. Her time in service not only allowed her to support wounded soldiers, but also led her to meet her future husband while stationed in California.

After her discharge in 1947, Ruth built a life rooted in family and continued her journey in Michigan before later relocating to Florida, where she remains close to loved ones.

Discover her story, and the stories of many other remarkable women who shaped our nation's military history, in She Proudly Served: Women in the Military, on display at the Women's History & Cultural Center through September 30.

🌱🥕 Meet Gold Award Girl Scout Stephania!

Through her project, Self-Sustained Garden for the GOLD!, Stephania empowered her community to grow fresh, healthy food at home. She built and maintained a community garden, hosted educational workshops, and donated more than 25 gardening starter kits—complete with seeds, soil, and instructions—to help families begin their own gardens.

Reaching more than 1,000 students, families, and community members, Stephania inspired healthier habits while showing that even one seed can grow into lasting change.

🩺🇺🇸 Meet one of the most decorated women featured in She Proudly Served: Women in the Military: Colonel Ruby Bradley.

A U.S. Army Nurse Corps officer, Col. Bradley served in both World War II and the Korean War, dedicating her life to caring for others in some of the most extreme conditions imaginable. While held as a prisoner of war in the Philippines for 37 months, she continued to provide life-saving care, assisting in hundreds of surgeries and helping deliver babies despite limited resources.

Following the war, she continued her distinguished service as a chief nurse in Korea before retiring as a colonel in 1963. Over her career, she earned 34 medals, including two Legions of Merit and two Bronze Stars, and is remembered as a symbol of courage, leadership, and unwavering compassion.

🌱💚 Meet Gold Award Girl Scout Shalyn!

Through her Gold Award project, Accessible Garden Beds for Disabled Adults, Shalyn made gardening more inclusive by building three wheelchair-accessible raised garden beds for adults with disabilities. Her project created opportunities for participants to plant, grow, and care for their own vegetables and flowers while building confidence, independence, and connection.

From planning and construction to installation, Shalyn's leadership transformed a simple idea into a lasting space where everyone has the opportunity to grow.

😊💙 Meet Gold Award Girl Scout Sabrina B.!

Through her project, Smiles for Students, Sabrina helped break the stigma surrounding mental health by creating uplifting events that reminded middle school students they are never alone. With encouraging messages, bracelets, stickers, keychains, and resources like the 988 Lifeline, she fostered connection, hope, and awareness in her school community.

Her project made a lasting impact—nearly 90% of participating students wanted the events to continue, and many reported feeling more connected and better equipped to navigate difficult emotions. Today, student leaders are carrying her mission forward.

⚓🇺🇸 Meet one of the pioneering women featured in She Proudly Served: Women in the Military: Loretta Perfectus Walsh.

Loretta Walsh made history as the first woman to officially enlist in the U.S. Armed Forces in a non-nurse role with equal rank, pay, and responsibilities. Enlisting in the U.S. Navy just days before the U.S. entered World War I, she quickly rose to Chief Yeoman, becoming the first woman to achieve the rank of Petty Officer.

Serving at the Naval Shipyard in Philadelphia, she played a vital role during World War I and was awarded the World War I Victory Medal for her service, setting a powerful precedent for future generations of women in the military.

🤖💡 Meet Gold Award Girl Scout Sabrina A.!

Through her project, Encouraging Engineering, Sabrina inspired the next generation of innovators by creating a hands-on STEM curriculum centered on Arduino technology. She developed easy-to-follow lessons, videos, and activities that helped students build their own robots while exploring engineering, creativity, and problem-solving.

Over 84 hours, Sabrina made STEM learning more accessible, and her YouTube lessons ensure students can continue learning long after the project ended. More than 90% of participants reported an increased interest in STEM after taking part!
