This day in Jewish History ✡️

On this day in 1935, Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook—Rav Kook—passed away in Jerusalem.

As the first Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of the Jewish community in Mandatory Palestine, Rav Kook helped shape the spiritual foundations of Religious Zionism.

He envisioned the return of the Jewish people to their ancestral homeland as more than a political movement—it was a profound spiritual and national renewal. He taught about Jewish unity, the holiness of rebuilding the Land of Israel, and the possibility of redemption emerging through the efforts of ordinary people.

His teachings continue to inspire Jews in Israel and throughout the Diaspora, reminding us that the return to Zion is both a national journey and a spiritual one.

May his memory be a blessing.

This week in Parashat Shoftim, we are commanded: “Justice, justice shall you pursue.”

Jabotinsky understood that the Zionist cause was not only a struggle for Jewish strength and sovereignty, but a fundamentally just cause: the right of the Jewish people to live freely and securely in our homeland.

May we continue to pursue justice, strengthen our nation, and protect the future of the Jewish people.

A respected leader in the Zionist movement, Ms. Feinstein-Cohen serves on the Presidium of the Zionist General Council of the World Zionist Organization (WZO) and has been a member of the Jewish Agency committees since 2002, serving on its Board since 2016. She also represented the WZO on the Council to Perpetuate the Memory of Ze’ev Jabotinsky in the Office of the Prime Minister of Israel.
