Having heard the polyanna analysis of government paid economists in Florida and Orlando over the last few months, Orlando Innovation Economy Group applaud's Mark Vitner's analysis of the Orlando economic situation - the first sane, objective, and comports with the facts on the ground economic analysis we have seen on the situation in Orlando.

Where is Orlando at in its economic recovery? "In terms of baseball analogy, I would say we are still in batting practice. Covid-19 hit Orlando’s economy particularly hard." "The primary culprit has been the devastating collapse in the region’s important tourism and convention business. The latest employment data succinctly capture the extent of the hole Orlando currently finds itself".

What opportunities do you see for local economic growth? "While the recovery story largely will be about the bounce-back in tourism, Orlando secular growth increasingly is being driven by technology, health care and professional services. Animation, video game development, artificial intelligence, fintech and life sciences all have become more important to the Orlando area and will grow rapidly in the coming decade. The space program also is headed for one of its most exciting periods ever, with missions to the moon and beyond set for the next few years. Defense spending is another growth area"

"These latest plans double down on subsidizing low-wage jobs — while encouraging some of the most promising students to leave. That’s a devastating 1-2 punch." Indeed Orlando Sentinel Maxwell a sorry model for 's .

More tax money for Visit Florida and less money for Bright Futures scholarships? That’s a backwards and sorry economic model that will keep Florida mired in low wages.
